The Pre-sequel: Better Than I Thought

Released in 2014, Borderlands: The Pre-sequel was released to tepid acceptance. tPS was good, and still is, but not as good as the previous game in the franchise. This isn't a controversial opinion, but Borderlands 2 was so unbelievably good, that compared to it, nothing after could have quite stacked up. Luckily for me, I haven't played tPS in years and I haven't played BL2 in longer. This game me fresh eyes to give this game a proper review.

Graphics

The hand drawn textures and artistic outlining give this game a unique graphical style which also looks good despite not being resource intensive. This game will run very well on most PCs out there and the artsy graphics will be uninhibited.

Coop

The internet or local cooperative is where the franchise has always been strong. The ability to just hop into a friends game and play is massively entertaining and gives it much more replay value in my opinion. Plus you can screw with your buddies for a laugh. That's real fun too.

Story

This is where the game fell significantly as compared to the previous title. The story is good, but not that memorable in my opinion. It does go back and explain the circumstances for Borderlands 1 and 2, but I cannot say that it is in any way memorable or profound. Coming off the heels of BL2's knockout performance, this gets a "meh". Retrospectively, this is better than BL1's story, but that isn't too much of an accomplishment.

Mechanics

This game plays like a class-based 1st person shooter because that is exactly what it is. The new O2 system is interesting, but not terribly exciting. Basically since you are on a moon with no atmosphere, you have to contend with depleting oxygen when outside. You can also expend O2 to hover in the air or slam the ground for knockback and explosive damage. This is neat and allows for more movement options, but is nothing revolutionary.

Review: 7/10

A step down from the previous entry in the series, but not a terrible game in its own right.
