Steemit - A Beginner's Review

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

First of all, I have only been on here for a few days, so cut me some slack if you don't like my view.

Second of all, I'm pretty old and I hate insincerity.

That's why I am beginning to fucking despise some of the Steemians on here. Not you though. You're cool. Please follow me and upvote all my posts. I'll do the same for you.

Nah, that's bullshit

I looked at your posts. I'm not upvoting your shitty DTube video about cryptocurrency or your reposted news articles. Also, you can shove your list of 7235 people that you follow deep inside your asshole. Nobody can keep track of that many posts and read them all. Not even The Rock.

(He neglects to tell to tell you that they were all on DMania.)

But on the upside, I found @urbanxtrail, @agrestic, and @horzymandias. This is just a start. I am just clicking on names and checking things out right now. I have seen a lot of original people on here, but most delve into topics that don't interest me. I have tried to be interested in Bitcoin, but I'm just not. I wouldn't be interested in Steem if it didn't have this network attached to it. What the fuck is a blockchain anyhow?

So far I think that there is great value here, but probably not in the way most people are using it. As someone who has been writing blogs for several years for almost enough money to cover the hosting fees, I relish the fact that people might like my reviews, stories, or memories enough to upvote me. I have done some pretty popular posts and got tons of likes and comments, but not a dime for my time. It excites me that some upvotes and resteems on my introduction post made $17 so far. I don't give a fuck that it's Steem and not cash. It's just nice to get excited about sharing my ideas again, but with new people. (To be clear, I never wrote to get paid. It's just a nice bonus if you get anything for doing something you love.)

So from what I can tell so far, 90% of people are on here to spam shitty content and trade fucking upvotes and follows. I know that over half of the people following me will never read anything I write and that's fine. I suppose it helps with reputation or power or something, but I'm not sure about that shit yet.

I don't follow people unless I'm interested in what they have to say. I don't have unlimited hours in a day to read everything, so I want things in my feed to resonate. If my feed is full of shit, then I might miss something valuable that some random person has decided to share with the world. I may miss the chance to upvote them. They may not jump from $.02 to $.03 for that post about a part of their life that made them think about suicide, but they managed to get through because they found a kitten behind a dumpster they were going to shoot up behind. It needed them to be strong and play with the string. It needed them to get a fucking job so they could buy it a better quality food than poisoned mice and squabs. It needed them to feel needed and loved.

(fuck me, I sure do love ginger kitties)
Sorry, I kind of went off on a tangent there. It happens.

In the end, I think I am going to stick it out and keep sifting through the shit to find my people. I know they are here, but I can't seem to find them by going to tags. I think people just have a random tag generator, or my sense of humour has drastically changed and funny has turned into pathetic.

As for the kitten story, it isn't true. I did find a kitten once though, when I was living in a very sketchy trailer park. I should tell that story sometime.

For now, I give Steemit a tentative thumbs up, because I know there are a lot of interesting and talented people here. I guess if I'm around in a month, it is still going well. If you are, or know anyone you think I should check out, tag them in a comment and I will go there forthwith.

Edit- It looks like @urbanxtrail has deleted their posts. That's too bad, as they were quite good.

Haha this honesty is refreshing. I'm definitely following you for the trailer park story if you can put that type of passion into it

I don't know if we share this opinion, but I absolutely hate #Dmania. None of it is funny. I can't browse the tag looking for the rare nugget of gold without worrying about contracting some visually-transmitted-disease.

Oh, it's not you at all, sir. It is full of garbage with the odd nugget. As my wife and I say, "I had to pick through a lot of shit to get to the corn."

Hahahahah dude, I definitely share that feeling. Thanks for several interesting people to follow here too, I've already checked out briefly two of them, it is time to get some quality buddies here.

Cheers to them ginger kittens brother, lol

Hey, you are welcome and thanks for taking the time to comment. Our two ginger kitties salute you.

I tend to find people haphazardly myself, most of the content is mostly bullshit I don't want to read in the first damn place. I can even browse the LGBT section and find bullshit about "check out this latest cryptocurrency news".

Yep. That's the way I'm seeing it as well.

What I'd like to see in a future steemit update is the ability to take certain keywords and just outright remove them from the feed, never showing them to me. I'd block "blockchain, cryptocurrency, bitcoin, btc, monero, xmr, litecoin, dogecoin, altcoin, eos, right off the bat.

Hahaha, you would definitely cut your feed down. Mine would drop by 50% I bet.

I seriously only have a minor interest in passing, that's about it. :)
