It was in the 5th Century B.C.E when photography was introduced only as a concept by an Iraqi scientist. Translated in modern language, this concept was called "camera obstura".

By the 11th century, this concept was thought to be suitably applicable to astronomy, which was then a focal interest of our ancient and inquisitive forefathers composed mostly of Europeans. Capturing images of the stars, planets and the universe was their lingering dream.

By the 16th century, this concept started to slowly take shape. Many of our ancestors tried a variety of experiments to capture images. It was not until 1771-1805 when a European named Thomas Wedgwood was thought to have created the first permanent pictures by capturing images on cloth or paper coated with light - sensitive material. Mind you, no apparatus for capturing images was ever invented yet.

In 1884, a New Yorker by the name of George Eastman took active interest in the development of photography.

By 1888, Eastman introduced his first KODAK camera. Does the name KODAK ring a bell? But of course! Kodak is and has been a household by-word synonymous to the word camera. Yes, this innovative apparatus can really take pictures for posterity. The ancient concept of camera obstura has now become a reality.

In 1901, the mass produced Eastman Kodak Brownie cameras took the American and world market by storm.

By the way, here is one interesting thing you may not know on photography....

Who was said to be the first selfie photographer in the world?

In October 1839, Robert Cornelius took a self-portrait of himself using a camera. At the back of his portrait he wrote,

"The first light picture ever taken".
So, don't you dare say that the millennials invented the selfie. LOL! The rest is history guys!
