Daily Writing Routine (2/3): The Urgency Of Creativity
Do you feel pressure to write blogposts? Do you sometimes sit for hours trying to write a blogpost, but for some reason can’t get in a flow? Do you feel like it’s hard to post great content everyday?
Writing blogposts is a passion of mine and I enjoy doing it, but just recently I talked to some blogger-friends of mine who felt that writing blogposts is stressful at times, on those days when you just
don’t feel creative...
Read Part 1: Increase Consistency, Decrease Procrastination
For me personally writing comes very natural, but when I do get stuck sometimes or don’t feel creative I find ways to overcome these mental blocks and I want to share them with you, help you save time, energy and spark your creativity.
First important thing to keep in mind is that you have the ability to change your way of working on blogposts. Everyone has a different approach and you need to find yours. If what you’re doing right now isn’t working, it might be time to switch things up.
When I recently talked to full-time bloggers, a few told me something interesting. They said that they plan the time, when they’re going to write a blogpost.
Writing blogpost for some people comes naturally easy and you write pretty quickly, however if writing has turned more into feeling like work for you then the quality of your content automatically decreases and you should consider a method that fits you better.
So what if you have a day where you just don’t feel creative?
Creativity, passion and emotion is what makes up a great blogpost/article and oftentimes it is believed that it can’t be forced. I believe this only half true, here is why: The first method a lot of full-time writers use is:
SUB-CONCIOUS WRITING
Start writing, even if you don’t feel like it. Make sure no matter what, you get something out of it! So start writing on your sub-consciousness like: I’m sitting on my bed right now, I’m writing but I don’t know what to write about, so I’m looking outside the window…. This morning I woke up feeling… …. and BOOM all of a sudden you manage to connect this thread that leads you to an important topic that you want to write about. Sometimes the best way to do something (also to avoid procrastination) is to just get started...
There are days you just don’t feel inspired, but you should continue mainly just to maintain the habit of it.
Also keep in mind that not everything you write has to be published. Most of my writing isn’t published, because I don’t just write to blog, but to simply write. The term blogging implies that you’re publishing your writing, while writing itself can be done just like that, just like reading a book, or practicing a skill. It’s important to remind yourself that not everything you write has to be with the intention to publish it. When you don’t think about that and just write, you don’t feel any pressure, negative energy and will write in a much more honest way, express your writing style without the fear of judgement and other mental barriers.
Now once you got that down you can start to challenge yourself with the intention that you will not only write on a consistent basis, every day, at a certain time, in a certain environment, but now you want to commit to also publish consistently.
The more you create and force yourself to publish it, the faster you will improve your skill of writing neatly and also expand your creative, improve your formatting and once you get into that routine and you’re consistent, people will notice that as an appreciated quality. Steemit is a great platform to get different kinds of rewards for consistency.
The key as you know is NOT to write one great thing and get noticed for it once, BUT to write consistently at a high level of quality content and build a large audience over time. The key to standing out is NOT to write one great thing, BUT to write consistently.
The internet is full of content already and the only way to get attention is to deliver high quality/quantity and it doesn’t have to be perfect, even though your writing skill improves over time. Steemit is again a great example, there are many new people joining and some put up one great blogpost and expect even greater reaction by the community. The problem here is, that there are lots of great authors on Steemit, but only if you commit to writing (for the last time) CONSISTENTLY, you will stand out.
There are 3 more keys to creativity coming your you next. The sub-conscious writing method I just introduced is the first approach to solving the problem of having an „empty mind“ where your creativity is simply asleep, but of course there is more to it and different approaches to look at when you are „too stuck“ already.
I hope this was helpful and you now know what to do next time you’re staring at an empty page.
