Today we tried to make up for summer's late arrival by cleaning and renovating our nursery shed outside. I got a new LED grow light from Costco to try out, I hope it does as good or better as my 2 fluorescent tubes. At 19W it is certainly efficient, and the control of Blue, Red is really fun.
In the north of the province it is predicted to snow tonight, and it is cold enough to consider making a fire. Everything is covered up outside, so no big deal. It's such a bummer to be held back with more cold temperatures. I don't think I'll being trying sugar baby watermelons this year. On a positive note I will be trying milkweed for the first time, I have the seeds in the fridge right now to prepare them for planting in a couple weeks. Who knows it could be more at this rate.
At this moment I'm still processing the raw footage for my next video, I wish it were coming along faster but I had too many things that needed to get done in the daytime. I will also be shooting more video tomorrow on planting seeds and transplanting seedlings. We have a lot to plant, that's why I made space today. I'm going to have to take a hard look at what and when I hope to plant and harvest. With so many active volcanoes spewing ash into the atmosphere my hopes for warmth sink lower and lower. There are lots of plants that enjoy it cooler and some varieties for certain plants that are more cold tolerant. Brocolli and Cauliflower both enjoy cooler temperatures as long as they don't get too much rain. I hope we can invest in a hoop or row cover to help warm things up, and to extend our fall harvests. Please comment below and let me know your tips for growing in colder temperatures.
