Filmmaker’s Diary (How a little discipline gave me a script in a week)

in #blog7 years ago

That is correct … I just wrote a script in a week. A short film script I must say … but still good.

I wanted to share this because it’s not my personal achievement but it was rather just a small adjustment that made it all possible.

I’ve had the idea for this movie some time ago… and it has been around 2 to 3 years that I decided It would be one of the next scripts I would write down on paper. After two, three years of having made the decision to write this story, I sat down (last week) to look at what I had written already... I had one small paragraph on paper…

In short: I had three years and wrote a crapy paragraph, then in a week I easily write a first draft.

How did that happened?…

Easy, Easy, Easy… All I did was sit down for an hour and write.

I know seems common sense, right? But as simple as it is, the action of actually doing it, it's really what made me go from a few sentences in a couple of years to a finished script in a week.

Just that, sit down and write.

(By the way, here is my article on how to kill write’s block: https://steemit.com/writing/@maxjoy/writer-s-block-knock-out-my-personal-remedy)

I did it first thing in the morning after, getting up, breakfast, shower etc… As soon as I was ready to get on with my day, I sat down and wrote for an hour. This is another aspect I believe it’s important, do it first thing in the morning.

Across my entire life I’ve been an extreme night owl. Most of my work was done at nights, many without sleep or only sleep while the sun was up.

“It’s ok, I’m a creative… this is how I roll”… but recently I wanted to change that in life in general. I don’t think it’s good for your health one bit and also I really don’t think it’s the most productive either.

If I haven’t seen the sun for three days, I will just get more lazy and slow… I for sure remember the resistance to start working sometimes at night. While with this new way of just waking up and doing it, I don’t even think about it.

I do love the fact that at night things tend to be more quite, with less distractions. I guess I’ll start waking up very soon and see how I react. All I know is that I’ll be trying this day thing instead of the night thing as much as possible in the near future, think it’s better for you and for the work. Win WIn!

What I’m trying to say is that, I’m very glad I was able to write a script so fast and easy by just sitting down everyday for a little hour. Now it's already a habit. No procrastination no nothing. The hour goes very fast by now and If I can, I'll write for longer.

A habit I intend to keep.
