Tropical humidity and vinegar. (with a little PVA)

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

It's been a heavy two weeks or so of rain, and here in the tropics the humidity really takes it's toll.
Clothes never feel really fresh - even after couple of of hours from the launderette..

And everything grows... everywhere...

Here' s a before and after pic... for comparison

While it looks pretty grim, it's not a crisis for my wargame table (ignored for this last while).

I just need to go to the shop for a bottle of white vinegar, and hey presto! - Gone! Totally...only 30 minutes later.
It's all back to normal and worth fighting over, once more..

I also add a little water and some PVA glue.
I add the PVA glue, every time I have to 'de- mold' it. It strengthens the bond of the 'grass' to the table, and it seems to reduce the speed of the returning mold. (twice a year).
Aerobic... something... something... sealing,...something, I would presume..

Normally war gaming 'grass' doesn't have this problem, using wood fiber sawdust , but that's not possible here - so ground rice husk is transformed with the help of some acrylic paints.

The end product is actually much nicer than the regular sawdust flocking - you just have to 'de-mold it' though, when it's really, really humid.

...off shopping...
