Internet in Venezuela

in #blog6 years ago

I had planned something completely different for my second post but since yesterday around 5 pm my internet service is dead so I decided to tell people a little bit of how it is to "have" internet in venezuela

So you may be wondering "Hasn't anybody tried to call the company and report the problem? To which I would reply "please, don't make me laugh". Since the former president Hugo Chávez nationalized the company CANTV in 2007, the service and malfunctioning of it has gotten so bad that usually when you go to complain to their branches they CAN'T process your claims because they don't have internet service.

(Meanwhile the customer service agents at CANTV)

That's some next level of insane.

The Internet service has become such a critical part of hour lives but also a constant pain in the ass because with the scarce of cash we have to pay almost every good and service either with a debit card or through a bank transferce and for both you need internet and now thieves cast their sight to the wires that enable the service so they steal it and asked ransom for it and the government does not do anything.

Another reason why it is so important for many families in Venezuela is because many Venezuelans depend on what they can get from doing on the internet. Many are freelancers, other do microtask, surveys, Bitcoin faucets anything that pays in a foreign currency even if it pays cents, it will be more profitable than earning in bolívares.

You would believe the goverment would at least try to have a reliable service for its people but no. This is like the government is trying to keep you down by any means possible. If this post is read by someone who didn't know how bad the situation in Venezuela was, now you can have an idea on how screwed we are.

Well, this is all I have to say for now and I hope that now you can appreciate a little more living in a country with some more normal problems.

Bye.
