Have you ever been strawberry picking?

Every year we try to get out to the strawberry patches to pick a few flats of strawberries. It's not the cheapest way to get strawberries, but they taste so much better and the experience is wonderful. This upick allows and encourages the pickers to eat as many strawberries as they want! How great is that! Come hungry!

My oldest daughter was most helpful this year.

She's getting at the age where she begins working on a task diligently enough to be productive. She's a hard worker when she wants to be!

My wife is super-berry-picker

While I'm enjoying the sunshine and taking photos, my wife @lturner is diligently picking strawberries at impressive speed. All with a baby on her back! She's super-woman.

The berries are beautiful!

Strawberry picking is a marvel to me. There's all these sweet and delicious fruits all over the ground, just waiting for someone to pick them. They're juicy and tangy sweet. Real strawberries are not like the ones at the store which are oversized and bland. These berries are small and delicious. Beautiful color red.

Picking Strawberries is an Experience

When a strawberry touches soil, it becomes soft and mushy, you know that it's not worth picking. Others are still green. You know they are perfect when they 'snap' off the vine. It's a very satisfying sound and feeling. It's tempting to eat every one of them, rather than filling our flat.

The amount of work it must take to maintain these strawberry fields is amazing. There were some mature weeds, but mostly just tasty strawberries. I can see why they're called 'straw' berries, since they stay fresh on top of the straw.

Daniel got to try a strawberry too.

He only has 2 bottom teeth, he's not quite ready for a lot of solid food, but he's curious about tastes and especially curious about these bright red things. He gave it a try.

Maybe a little sour for him.

Our Final Haul

We managed to pick two flats of strawberries, which is about 25 lbs total. I was surprised at the total bill, but I have to remember all the hard work some family did to make this experience possible. And we have a lot of strawberries for pie, jams etc. About four freezer bags full!
