Who is Banksy?
In the last couple of days I have read about an interesting initiative by the street artist Banksy.

This above was the page www.banksy.co.uk a couple of days ago, but today it looks like this:

But, who is this Banksy?
Well, good question...
Nobody really knows who he is. I am pretty sure Police knows who he is (considering also the huge amount of CCTV cameras in the UK) but for the public, he is unknown.

Do we know at least something about him?
Him? Who said that we are talking about a "him"?
Considering that his identity is unknown it would be not surprising if Banksy in reality is a woman.
Although in some interviews his appearance and voice are of a male.
Interviews?!?
Yes, he released some interviews but in all of them he was wearing a mask or he was in the darkness so that nobody could see him.
He has actually released a docu-movie called "Exit Through the Gift Shop" (wikipedia link here) where he tells the story of Thierry Guetta, a French immigrant in Los Angeles, and his obsession with street art.
It is also common believe that he is English, precisely from Bristol.

Is there any idea of who he actually can be?
There have been different attempt to give a real identity to Banksy.
In 2008, a newspaper reportedly unmasked Banksy as Robin Gunningham. This has been confirmed by scientists at Queen Mary University of London that claime to have "tagged" Banksy using geographic profiling.
Another name often linked to the mysterious artist is another Bristolian, Robin Banks or Banx (from this, Banksy).
Paul Horner, originally from Liverpool, is another name that has been in somebody's thoughts, although his identity as Banksy was only related to an hoax appeared on satirical website National Report
Mr Brainwash (aka Thierry Guetta) - is another candidate. His appearance in Banksy's docufilm has led people to believe he was a hoax created by Banksy or that he is Banksy.
Banksy could be artist Damien Hirst's alter ego. They collaborated for the piece Keeping It Spotless, that is also the most expensive Banksy's canvas, sold for the price of $1,870,000 (see below)

King Robbo was another of the list. The graffiti artist died in 2014 and he has been in a feud with Banksy. You can read more
about their feud here: http://twistedsifter.com/2012/01/banksy-vs-robbo-war-in-pictures/

Another idea is that probably Banksy is not one person, but a group of people.
Will we ever know who he is?
The artist said that he will reveal his identity sooner or later.
Before that day we can only try to guess... and be patient.

This is a great initiative. I will post something soon :)
Huge Banksy fan. Love his work and what he stands for. Incredible stuff :D
Thanks mate. I love his artworks as well and I am very intrigued by the mystery around him
:)
Ps. Follow me if you wish ;)
I am also extremely intrigued by the mystery shrouding him!
He's a mystery :)
Do you like him?
Yea, I like his work
Do you think his artworks deserve that value?
there's a decent chance this is him - taken in israel and taken by surprise!

It might be... It might be not... I believe he is smart enough to create situations where he makes think people they caught him... Although my personal opinion is that he is not one... Thanks for the pic by the way :)
If you ever get a chance to go to Bristol in England, take it. There is some terrific street art.
Good post, have a follow.
Thanks :)
I have planned more than once to go to Bristol but then I have always put is aside. Living in London it is literally behind the corner. But I will put it again on the table if you recommend me to go there.
Banksy inflicts his dirty political views on the public and the government love it, so they put him on a pedestal as opposed to many other great artists. The government's main goal is to keep the system going and if you're a good influence in that, then they will happily promote you! So the moral of the story is; if you want fame then sell out.
well, why you think that the government likes him?
They put plastic over his artwork to preserve it! Do some research into him?
Also they fine other artist's for vandalizing the streets but because it's banksy it's not vandalism, it's art.. Also look at how most of his work is pushing a political agenda.
I know that! What I am saying is "WHY you think they like him? For which reason they like him instead of hate him?".
Because he's pushing any political agenda.. Instead of exposing the mass corruption.
To be honest, I am still trying to understand what he meant with the EU flag with the man removing the star... I can't get if it is pro-EU or against...
Seriously, please don't overthink it, it's meant to be simple to appeal to the masses, so they can egotistically agree to make themselves feel more intelligent. The EU flag is talking about the relationships between the participants of the EU are falling apart. Thus the EU is failing. But it's part of a much bigger agenda. Basically where all the BIG money is. Something us peasants won't understand. To the elite's we are muggles, literally, in the Harry Potter movies, muggles represent day to day people. That's the elite calling us mugs.
