Fathers Day

Today in South Africa, like many countries around the world we celebrated Fathers Day. It is all about spending time with your family and recognising the role and impact that father figures have in our lives.
Being a father of two small children, this has become a very important day in our household; a day that the children look forward to for ages. They spend days at school preparing the cutest handmade cards and gifts to shower us fathers with at some un-godly hour of the morning. The excitement is intense.

For me it was a lovely breakfast of chocolate chip crumpets in bed with my wife and kids followed by plans for a lunch time braai (barbeque), a few beers and hopefully a nap on the couch if all goes well.

The lunch went well, the nap…not so much. The time with my family was priceless. Such special times.

Those days are a sweet long gone memory of young children rushing around, enjoy every minute of it, soon they will be grown up, not that it should ever stop the wishes.
The tangible excitement that comes when still young, it is contagious and exhilarating something we never forget.
I guess that I have reached that age and stage in life where Christmas and occasions like this are just as exciting as they used to be when I was a kid....just now for different reasons. I can see how people say that their kids keep them young...really is magical!
