Amster-damn! A spectacular evening of food and wine (featuring new author @sisterholics)

Before leaving for Amsterdam with our cousin Rebecca I got down to some very serious business and planning…We had to sort out all of our restaurant reservations. She had gotten some amazing tips from friends who lived there.

We got together to recon our options.

One that definitely made our cut was Envy. We decided it would be our first night’s dining place.

 We headed there on our bikes, chained them up like locals – okay, not quite like locals the first few times – and walked the last few steps to the restaurant. On our way we asked a tall, blond stranger to take a photo of us. 

 Summer brings out the best in the city, the people are super friendly and the city is alive with young people enjoying the heat. The canals are packed with people on boats with a bottle of wine and good company. 

Eventually, we made it.  We sat down and almost immediately hit up the menu. Look at these chicas studying the options. 

 The two, who were too busy looking at the food menu, left picking the wine to me!  Let me just say, the ladies were quite happy with my choice, we finished two bottles quite easily. 

 Then came the starters.First up: Prosciutto di Parma for the two.

Then: “Luxury bread with truffle mayonnaise and olive oil” with delicious crunchy nuts on the side, Rosie’s favourite

You know it’s serious business when the hair gets tied up…

The mains came out and we decided to share it all. Envy’s philosophy was to order several dishes and share to get to try each.
I had decided to try a pescatarian diet for the trip as it made ordering easier and I didn’t feel so guilty making them take vegetarian options.
The first main: oosterschelde lobster with Dutch asparagus, clams and young vegetables…

 Beef entrecote with crème of puffed onion and green peas. 

 Lamb with eggplant, courgette and sauce of young garlic. 

Creamy risotto with tomato and burrata…

All the food was delicious and the service was super friendly. Our lovely waiter even gave us tips on where to go after and where all the locals went out.

While doing our heavy research and booking all the restaurants, Rebecca and I did a naughty thing…

We said it was a birthday celebration dinner in order to get special treatment. In a way it was true.. in a few days time it was Rebecca’s birthday.
Since Rosie had no idea about this plan of ours,when the waiter came up and asked us “whose celebrating their birthday tonight?” we sneakily pointed to Rosie at the same time.

Who was completely befuddled but went with it anyway “Yes, me!”, then she pulled this face.

How sneaky! Then the following occurred (which made Rosie a very happy lady!). All the (good-looking, might I add) chefs came out and sang for her and she blushed and giggled (should I mention that they were all incredibly good looking?). They served up their birthday wishes for Rosie on this creation.

 We dug in, giggled away while Rosie pretended that its her birthday and finally it was time to go. 

 A good evening spent in Amsterdam, right?
