Why Engaging the Community is the Way to go?

The first thing people ask when they join the website is "How will I earn?". Most people's reason for joining Steemit are the Rewards. Well, that's the tag line.

Steemit.com / steemit.com

There are 2 things that you need in order to flourish in this platform: Quality Content & Engagement.

Between those two, I think that Engagement is the most important. Why? Let's look at it this way:

If you post quality content and you don't engage at all in the community then there's a big chance no one will pay attention to your posts yet, because you do not have a 'solid organic following'. What is that? Those are your Steemit supporters and friends. They're your readers and your commenters. A big follower count is not necessary for this one, cause even a fewer number of people following you attentively will give you more rewards than a thousand who don't even open your post.

If you engage in the community but don't have blog posts it's still possible to earn, even earn big. Take note though that you also have to provide 'quality engagement'. Simply saying 'hi' or 'good job' on someone's post doesn't cut it all the time. You have to engage honestly and provide your view on the matter or type your heart out. If you like a post, don't just tell them you like it, make your words let them feel that you really like it.

Engagement isn't about commenting only, and is not at all about earning.

Engagement is a normal thing you do on other social media sites like Facebook or Instagram. There's nothing else to do there, really. Post something and reply to every comment you get. Comment a lot on your friend's posts and photos. Like their posts is also considered as engagement, especially when you use the reactions feature.

Is it true that engagement is the key to success?

Yes and No. Yes, it is part of it, one of the main factor. No, it depends on how you engage, who you engage, and why you engage.

Have you ever seen posts that makes your browser lag behind because of too much engagement? I have. A good example is @surpassinggoogle's posts. There are times that when I open one of those, it doesn't even load. Either it's a limitation of the website or of my device. Anyways, that's more engagement than any forum I know. He's doing a good job at it. His followers are also doing a good job on their engaging habits.

Gauge, Engage, Enrage!

Gauge - Start looking for a post and weigh if it's worth engaging.
Engage - Make a meaningful comment.
Enrage - Don't stop replying even if the other one decides to.

I think this will be a good practice. Initiate the conversation. Pick it up if it falls. Revive it if needed. Other than an upvote, these commenters that you have are also waiting for your reply to their comment. Even a simple 'Good job' deserves a 'Thank you!'.

Maraming Salamat!

Thank you so much!

This is one the interesting and useful posts i have come across on steemit this week.

I agree totally with your opinion on engagement and when i see people complain about low they are earning on steemit, the first thing i do ask them is how much time they have invested in engaging with other people and their content on steemit?

I'm following your formula experimenting your formula for engagement; Gauge, Engage, Enrage! it's the smartest way to make headway on steemit

Thanks for your amazing comment. And for appreciating that formula I've thought of.

When I started, I did Steemit overtime, and I mean more than 12 hours each day. To learn, experiment, fail, and somehow succeed a bit. This platform only gives you back how much you put in it.

Cheers!

Yeah, and it always fare in doing so :)

It does, thank again!

Engagement is Really important matter in any races.
in engaging people, we must be visible to them.
they must new that we are a person. that we are there.
this is the simple tip i learn when engaging to people.
1st we must be visible to them.
the best way to be visible to them is to leave a nice comment about the post. if you want to be recognize by the author you want to engage.

@cleverbot

That's right @ruah. Make yourself known, not just to a few authors, but eventually to the whole platform. There was a guy before, I think his name was Erick and all he does pretty much is comment a lot - but his comments are very meaningful and nicely-written. And he's earning more from it than his posts.

yes sir @deveerei. i know a person too whos engaging in a comment too. her name is inquiringtimes. she always left a wonderful and meaning comment on the post of someone she want engage to.

That's great, maybe we can all aspire to be like those people.

Engaging to others the right way possible is like throwing a boomerang with each other; we see how their personalities and uniqueness work, nevertheless, the more we throw ‘good engagement’ to others the more we influence them in our own deeds as another individual. As we engage ourselves to the community, we are like sharpening our own mind and as well as the whole community, for the reason of being active and influencing them with your thoughts you may advance your career here in Steemit and most of all help other beginners who are lost along their first journey. And talking about being a beginner, I am also a newbie here and with the help of good people here in Steemit who offer their hands for guidance, I am now recovering from all the bewildering frustrations as a ‘new kid on the block’. ENGAGING is like a LEARNING cycle, we learn from other people as well as they also learned something from us, as long as we continue the connection. And the more connections you have the bigger the community you are in and the bigger support system you have. And that is why engaging with others comes in like it is a must. IN SO MANY WAYS, ENGAGING BUILDS HOPE, CONNECTIONS and ABUNDANCE all throughout the community! Thank you so much for this motivating post you shared sir @deveerei God bless!

This is a wake up call for most of us. I think people here just want to get money without putting any effort at all. Unfortunately things don't work that way, to earn one has to work first. I hope the steemit community, especially the new joiners will take time to engage and refrain from spamming posts with attention seeking comments.

I hope so too. I see some people complain about not earning and when I see their contributions here especially in terms of engagement they have almost close to none or they just keep doing irrelevant things, hoping to get value without providing any value in exchange.

I just wish we have a way of pinning interesting posts to the front page. This post would've deserved a place there.

Thanks so much for that thought @greenrun. Sadly, for this to go trending it needs more $$ on it.

It definitely needs more zero behind behind it to get there :)

Haha. It will be great if one of my posts can do that. :) Just going above 100$ will be really amazing!

With great contents such as these and great engagement, it's only a matter of time before that happens

Thanks for your kind and encouraging words, I hope the same thing happens for you.

You welcome

You have a good one!

Thanks for sharing the knowledge man ! The part gauge engage enrage is the practical part needed, though the enrage part seems pretty wild haha (but reading the comments it seems the way to go)

Haha. I just can't find another word that rhymes. :D

I was able to find a good-enough explanation for it cause someones asked why i used it:

It's more of a connotation rather than the literal meaning of the word. What I meant is to enrage one's self (kinda like a gaming term - usually means you will get more power or faster speeds) and push to your limits in terms of engagement. I'm using it like how I use the term "DOPE" - that certain word can have a negative or a positive meaning; either it means stupid or it means awesome, it all depends on the context. :)

Engagement is the most important thing to consider: connections and relationships need to be forged in SOCIAL media such as Steemit. I remember when I joined Steemit I didn't post right away and instead commented and made connections & friendships with people first. You may write the best blog there is but without engagement you won't be able to build an audience for your blog/post, nobody will read it.

Good take on it @rainbowme. I appreciate this comment of yours further explaining what engagement is and why it is helpful, especially to newbies.

I agree sir @deveerei, it's not just about leaving a comment but also the 'meat' of that comment you left. Those automatic replies like the ones we see in most introductory posts had some impact on me when I was still starting out but I later found comments that really responded to the subject of my post or even to a phrase on my post to mean so much more. Very valid points from which newbies can benefit. Apir!

That's a good take on it. 'Meatier' comments are good for the soul. Like this one you left here. Thanks! Apir!

Sometime recently, someone said that :

The secret to succeeding on the Blockchain is a little bit of who you know and what you know.

I discovered that I've made more friends from post engagements than on my posts. Sometimes I even earn more.

people need to understand that it is not all about them all the time

A single comment on a post may change a lot.

big follower count is not necessary for this one, cause even a fewer number of people following you attentively will give you more rewards than a thousand who don't even open your post.

It's not the quantity everytime but the quality. Thank you for sharing this @deveerei

Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well @buterdaniel. I really appreciate it. You had a nice take on it. Great job!
