When The Cat’s Away...steemCreated with Sketch.

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

The mice will play, that’s how the saying goes anyway, suggesting that, when your spouse or significant other is away from the house and, you have time to yourself, you’re going to do mischievous things that are out of the ordinary. Well, @puravidaville is on a three day #adventure right now in Panama City with a few of the girls we met in Golfito, Costa Rica. I’m just doing what any other mouse would do when the cat’s not home. 😉

I got in the kayak and went for an eight mile paddle across the bay, up and down the mangroves and back, just taking it all in. As I passed the fellas en route to the docks, I said “I’m going to go see how quiet it is out there.” Eh, what’s up, #steemit? Thanks for clicking on this article—this is what it sounded like today:

Right around here somewhere is when I realized all of the gray clouds hadn’t lifted and it’s possible it could rain. The saying “when it rains it pours” must be referring to Golfito Bay—the roads are rivers when it pours here, getting caught in a kayak, in the ocean, in the middle of a downpour would be no bueno. I started trippin out a little bit thinking about the possibilities, should it rain, and how the kayak would fill up with water. I was way too far from land to deal with a boat full of water. I should’ve checked the weather report! I put a little more effort into my paddling and got closer to shore.

Fish were jumping around me a few times, I saw about four large boils in the water of feeding fish. I couldn’t get any pictures of them—they wouldn’t set still long enough for a #photo. The monkeys were very vocal today, I wasn’t able to see any, I just listened to their howls echo across the bay. The sun finally began to shine through the cloud cover. The thought of rain passed and I realized I’d gone all the way across the bay without any drinking water—none! No weather report and no water—I’m so unprepared.

I don’t know what kind of birds those are in the above picture, they were white with pink wings and long legs. This next picture is a structure someone calls home. The island in this picture is uninhabitable, there’s no energy or running water but these people are making it happen—some ‘cowboys,’ wouldn’t you say, @janton?

I decided to begin my return paddle the three or four miles across the bay to the docks. It was pretty nice outside, the sun wasn’t too bad but I didn’t bring any sunblock—danget! No sunblock nor a weather report and no drinking water. Unprepared is an understatement.

I made it back unscathed, first things first, I need some water—stat! That was a nice paddle, thanks for touring with me! One thing’s for sure, I won’t give Pura Vida a hard time about her planning habits anymore. She plans, I don’t—at all! If she was here—we would’ve had water, sunblock, known the weather report and she probably would’ve brought a few apples, too, or peanuts or something. I’ll try to do those things next time.

It looks like I beat the rain by a few hours—it just began pouring about five minutes ago and the street is already turning into a river:

Haha… such a planner! We would’ve had bug spray, water, a towel, hats, by the way, do you like this hat?

AD0E8AEF-5E43-40EB-B661-28FAF9DF0F62.jpeg

If you do I’ll grab it. I thought it was pretty dope, found it in a Panamanian thrift store. It fits my head loosely so figured it’ll fit yours.… let me know as soon as you get up. Muah

Glad you’re having a good time without me.

But I don’t wear hats?? 🤔 I already have a keep the sun out of my face hat—does the back flip down on that one to keep the sun off my neck when I’m peddling? Second hand is dope though. Did you see @ocd resteemed my progressive rant article? Man, that was a pleasant surprise this am—my first ocd Resteem.

Hola! Buenos dias, eres hermosa!

Hola mi amor. Si, pero te gusta sombreros… conoce Es in sombrero de playa, just a cool one. (I know it’s a hat of the beach) The first sentence says (yes, but you like hats). I didn’t use the translator and it’s probably really broken but it’s getting better.

The shop is right across the street. It’s just like the hat you used to have in LB… 🤷🏼‍♀️

Dude that LB hat was the ish! Yeah, if it compares to that one, you should maybe probably get it kinda sorta.

Sorry 🤷🏼‍♀️

You are right dandays, when the cat leaves, the mouse will make a party. It looks like you like boating. It is suitable for the people who like adventure. The pictures that you display are also very real and beautiful.

You’re always so sweet and kind to me, elianaelisma, thank you! I wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary, right, just being a mouse?? 😉 Thank you for continuing to support what I’m doing around here, your encouragement means a lot.

I just checked out your article about the woman sweeping the streets. I won’t repeat myself here but I have several questions I was interested in knowing the answers to—I asked them on your page.

Thanks for stopping by @elianaelisma—it’s always a pleasure to hear from you.

Thats awesome bro! 8 freaking miles! Nice. Im so out of shape, my heart rate just increased 20% reading 8 miles. Ive been checking some kayaks out lately, cool fun. Id like to have a fishing pole there.

Is that the EOS boat? 🤣

Got tired just reading—dude that was funny! Hola! Buenos dias, weirdheadahces, what’s in the agenda today?

No, hell no, ain’t even an EOS dingy! Speaking of, have you heard about MEOS yet? I just heard about it for the first time like an hour ago.

Go EOS! Go EOS!! I can see it floating already bro!

Thanks for stopping by @weirdheadaches.

Wow, it seems like it's also a rat, this is really a fun thing when cats don't peek anymore

Good morning, ustazkarim, how are you? What’s on your schedule today?

Thanks for stopping by @ustazkarim. It’s always a pleasure hearing from you.

Good morning to you too, actually in my country it's late ..
thank you I'm also happy with you, good greetings for you

it is very beautiful to enjoy the view from this lake

Thank you, agil04, I’m glad you liked it—it was tranquil out there! Not a lake, however, it’s the a bay on the Pacific Ocean complete with crocodiles even—yikes!

Thanks for stopping by @agil04.

Curious and enjoyable experience.

How’s it goin, eii, how good was this day for you? Lay it on me!

I’m actually attempting something new his week—wish me luck! I don’t have one of those badges from Steemit-board that says “you posted every day this week.” I’ve been meaning to put an honest effort forward and get one of those but the most I’ve ever posted in one week is 4 articles. I’m off to a good start, we’ll see how the rest of the week plays out. I’m also hoping by doing puts me in the running to get one of those cool, custom signatures from @qurator. 😉 Every time I see of my friends on here get one I get “Wa! I want that!”

I really appreciate your continued support, eii, thank you! Happy hump day to you and yours.

Thanks for stopping by @eii.

Undoubtedly, if you wish, you will achieve every success.
Not to mention getting any badge from Steemit-board.
This is easiest.
I wish you all the success of the world.

I'm just glad the jungle homies weren't in the Deliverance mode. White boy woulda been rowing like a Ivy Leaguer.

<ding: <ding: <ding: You nailed it! Yeah, that’s why I took that picture from a distance, I figured they probably don’t like the look of camera lenses.

Thanks for stopping by @carklevicci. Two sightings from you in one day—dang! Today’s a special day.

I'm on a roll

haha! howdy sir dandays! Yes those people are definitely cowboys! That is a little extreme to live with zero utilities, they would be unaffected by blackouts and EMP attacks. Wow. Hey that trip had to be quite the workout, especially with no water! Gorgeous views though! Maybe you guys will do that together next time?

My goodness, since you asked! Janton, ok, the muscle that connects your shoulder to your neck kinda, the trapezius, never been that sore—ever.

Yes, that was the second time I went out, the first time was in the double boat, we both went out. We almost made it out today but decided against it because it got too late.

Cowboys—for sure! They like “roughin it, what’s ‘smoothen’ it mean?”

Thanks for stopping by, @janton.

Howdy sir dandays! smoothen it is what everyone else wants to do, as many luxuries as possible!
Okay so the first time you went out you were well supplied with water because the planner was there. lol.
so what did you guys do over the weekend? I asked both of ya and got no answer so it must be a secret!

Well, fortunately the country shuts down on Sundays so we weren’t obligated to experience the humidity yesterday. But, we stayed cool on Saturday, too! That’s been the objective while in this location—stay cool. I can’t wait to see the next one.

howdy sir dandays! Do you know where the next one will be or would that be too much planning? lol.
Do you consider it to be good that the country shuts down on Sunday? And does that included the
restaurants?

Yes, it includes the restaurants. The bigger cities you’ll find some places open, not a lot but some. Coastal towns, however, especially down here, nothing. I think it’s cool actually! Forces everyone to spend time doing something else—like mastering thievery sleight of hand.

Well, we made a list. I have two favorites based solely on what I’ve read. Out of the two, Taiwan and Thailand. Pura is thinking Malaysia, Indonesia so, south east Asia is a logical guess. But just today she found a couple that’s sailing from the UK all the way across the ocean to the French Polynesian islands doing many island hopping stops along the way. We’ll know a lot more, this time next I assume, or maybe not. What do you think? At sea for a whole year with two people you’ve never met and.. wait for it, wait for it... no WiFi—could you imagine?

haha! A year at sea with strangers? no way. Well they wouldn't be strangers for long that's for sure.
I don't know if you read hangin's posts but he moved to Thailand and posts about that place at least twice a day, always amazing and remarkable. It's an amazing country. I don't know much about other countries but that one I do because of his posts, that and Malaysia.
I keep reading about Malaysia on steemit and that's amazing too. I don't know how you make that decision though!

What are those guys from the UK doing there, just passing through?

Just living, Janton. The same thing we all should be focused on. 😉

You probably would have made a poor Boy Scout. Great adventure despite your total lack of preparedness.😁😁😁
OK, I don't want to sound like a nag, but how many times do I have to tell you to Be Safe. Just incase your native tongue is now Spanish, ser seguro.
😁😁😁
When the cat gets home, she wants to return with her man in one piece.

If you’re nagging me about “Be safe,” what is this then? “It sure isn’t nice to have you back, Sweed!” <—nagging, no? The same only a little different. 🤔

Dios te bendigas!!

Thanks for stopping by, @thebigsweed. I just got your response to my Progressive Rant, sir, what a beautiful response! I’m actually bouncing around a few places right now because I want to spent a little time commenting back on that one—I’ll save it for last. Thank you so much for taking the time to go over my week and follow what I’ve been up to, that really means a lot. Thanks for always being so cool.

There weren’t many Monkeys around but My wife and I used to do a bit of canoeing in this cove on the Columbia River. Loaded down with a 1/2 rack of Cold ones and me Sportin’ a Beer helmet I would paddle the canoe around and enjoy a couple cold ones with my sexy lady. My dad still has that canoe!! I should go steal it from him.
When my wife is gone I get some crazy ideas about projects around the house. Then I take a pause and think... “What wild Mama Splatts Think?” HAHAHAHA
Looks like you are enjoying yourself, even though you nearly died of dehydration. Lol

(Again, sorry for the lack of Upvote, I explained it in my response to you just now about forgetting the anniversary of my mother’s death... the whole 60 and 80 percent thing that I need to work on, anywho.....)

Of course you wear a beer helmet! Of course you do dude, duh! I bet if you investigated down the line and found the inventor of that beer hat, you and him/her share the same DNA.

The canoe with you and your wife—a double canoe? Pura and I took out the double kayak once, while we’ve been here, a lot of fun. Super stable boat. Man, that one I took off on the other day, a single person kayak, talk about fragile! Ooh wee! I really had to develop a technique to prevent tipping over—thank God a boat didn’t push a big wake on me.

Another thing, you’re into gym stuff so this isn’t Chinese: My delts (deltoid I think they’re called), the muscles that attach the shoulders to the neck—my goodness gracious! Those rows worked my delta unlike any exercise in the gym ever!! “Like woah.”

Thanks for stopping by @jlsplatts.

Hahahahaha. I have though my of many ways to upgrade the “traditional” beer helmet but just never put it to action. 😜😜
Ya the canoe can actually fit more than just 2 people in it. There is a seat in the front and one in the back and a big open space in the. Idle for stuff. It is about 12 feet long maybe longer. It isn’t anything you just pack around like a kayak. It has an aluminum frame and some sort of space age plastic stuff to format the canoe.
:quick story: When we would go camping and the rain would hit, it was canoe race time!!! I was really small but I remember watching my dad and uncles run from the campsite down through the big jagged rocks. Shove the canoe off the shore and out about 400 yards around a buoy and back. Slam the canoe into the rocks and run up to the awning. It was intense watching these old guys get all competitive. My dad and my crazy uncle paul, who still rocks a mullet to this day, smokes Marlboro cigarettes and drinks Budweiser and grows his own weed, were the defending champs year after year. Lol. My dad with his gimpy Leg from polio, is always comical to watch run. One day I am going to have to write a little something about him. I still to this day have never beat him in a game of HORSE. That old man can shoot a basketball like nobodies business. Since he couldn’t run in his younger days he just shot hoops...... ok I’m done. 😜😜

I was gonna take off to the gym right now but wanted to respond to this one. Eh, I think an article as a tribute to your dad, reminiscing the canoe, Gimp, basketball, everything you just told me plus everything you haven’t told me would be a refreshing post to read bro—just sayin.

You’ll catch the platform off guard, too, we all anticipate your DIY’s and humor, the surprise factor is always exciting.
