Help! I Think We've Become Foodies?!
I've never particularly liked the word foodie, it sounds a bit too cutesy for my taste, but I do think that it's the most accurate description of what me and my girlfriend Jeanine have become. We didn't become foodies overnight, it kinda evolved over time, when more of our activities started to revolve around food.
Passion for Food
When we first started dating, it became clear that we both really liked to go out to eat. It was great to have that shared interest in food, since it made those early, tense conversations a lot easier.
Of course we also talked about more personal matters, but I distinctly remember that a lot of the topics definitely had some food-related elements to them.
I'm not going to bore you with our entire dating history, just wanted to make it clear that we had some interest in food, but nothing too crazy. We have changed a little bit over time though...
Where It Gets a Little Crazy
As you've read in the previous segment, I wouldn't say that we were that obsessed with food in the beginning. The slight hint of obsession, only became apparent when we went on our first mini vacation together.
We had booked a hotel room at the Belgian coast when we'd been dating for a couple of months. I think we must have spent a couple of hours each day, while we were there, to look for the best possible places to eat. I'm talking about extensively researching all possible restaurants in the area and painstakingly comparing reviews until we found the perfect places to have dinner.
This trend has continued on all of our other vacations. I think we're a little bit crazy in that aspect. I've not heard about any of our friends spending so much time, just to pick the right restaurant. On our last vacation, I think we were both spending around 2 hours per day, just going through Google Maps and Tripadvisor to find the right places to eat.
I think we might have a little bit of a problem, to be honest. We're lucky that we're both people who can eat what they want, without gaining too much weight. That might change when we get older though...
Accepting Foodie-ness
I guess it's time to accept that we're both probably foodies. I'm still looking for a better term... Do share if you know of a better word for it! I'd opt for a less cute and hipstery word in a heartbeat ;-)
We're both really passionate about food and I also blog about our experiences in different restaurants. That seem like enough reasons to finally embrace the word foodie.
I personally still think it's a little bit weird to take pictures of everything I eat, but I also do enjoy it when I see the pictures afterwards. It's nice to think that a restaurant owner might read one of my reviews, I imagine that they're probably a bit proud when they see someone taking pictures of their food. Taking that into consideration makes it a bit easier for me!
Being a self-proclaimed foodie, doesn't mean that I'll only eat pretentious food. I like keep a balance between eating according to my Burgundian lifestyle, while also trying some more fancy foods from time to time.
Future Food Adventure
There's one really big food-related event coming up in our home town of Leuven, it's called Hapje-Tapje. An amazingly big food fair, where all the local restaurants have a stand with some of their best dishes. The price and portion size is small, so we can try out dozens of different foods.
You can view the whole event on this map, when you click one of the icons, you can see their menu. It's in Dutch, but you can use Google Translate to understand all the different menus. Any requests for stands to visit are welcome!
I'm definitely going to be tasting some delicious sea-snails, I'll write an interesting blog post about that. Live streaming might also happen, since I've just figured out how to do that through Dlive.
I hope you'll be entertained by my future content, maybe you'll want to visit Belgium afterwards, we've got some really great food!
I think I consider myself a 'foodie' too, we were out last night again for some, but Im waiting on @testeem returning before I do the write ups. They value 'proper' ones, and were getting abused so stopped for a while.
You don't happen to know a different word for it? :P

Let me see if I can come up with a different term. When I think of the term foodie I think of some one a bit pretentious who would never be caught in anything less than a five star restaurant. You don't really strike me as that sort. How about "culinary explorer"?
The term foodie really makes me think more of hipsters, but that also kinda fits your description. I was looking for a synonym with one word, but don't think there is one.
Yeah I got thinking that after I posted that. I was afraid it might be a little too long.
I don't know why ... but I don't like the word foodie either. Although I seriously may say, my boyfriend doesn't take pictures of all he eats ... but he sure is a foodie.
I'm in between two chapters ... The one is still, "I just want to cook quickly but healthy and delicious", the other is "And I want to make a damn good presentation on our dish too".
So I guess that means ... I'm on my way to slowly become a kind of foodie too.

Yeah we eat quite a lot of meat, but also 2 days vegan per week. Currently not yet looking to doing that full-time though :)
We are Foodnies Kinda like a foodie but not quite convinced or prepared to admit it 😬😉
