Milestone Reached: $100 and 100,000 Vests [Am I still a Minnow?]
When I first started Steemit I planned on sharing certain milestones I met along the way. I challenged myself to have my account valued at $100 within my first month of signing up, and today, I have met that goal. I am extremely surprised that I was able to accomplish this within 21 days so not only did I meet my goal, but I surpassed it by a few dollars as well!
Another milestone was reaching 100k Vests, as that was the number I came up with where a high percent upvote will tick the penny decimal over. While I've been ticking over that penny decimal for a few thousand vests now, I definitely have a strong penny upvote now!
I feel really good being able to toss authors a penny. When I joined 1 Steem was at about $1.15 and today it is sitting at around $3.23, so we can say that I would not have met the milestone yet had the price not gone up. Sitting at about 49 STEEM worth of vests, had the price stayed I'd be at about $56 which is still impressive to me for 21 days of blogging.
I never imagined a place like this could exist. To be honest, I first heard about Steemit about a year ago when I noticed it on the coinmarketcap boards. While I was busy with real life issues, I couldn't quite grasp the concept due to other websites I heard a bout in the past with similar concepts. One I heard about was TagVillage. When I found out about it, it had already been shut down and people had lost quite a bit of money because of it. The problem? I believe it was due to not being backed by cryptocurrency like Steemit is. As always, I could kick myself for not getting on this sooner, but it's not too late yet! While Steemits concept is not quite the same and by far more polished, as anyone who's done their due diligence, I was skeptical. I loved the idea though and had plans on checking back.
Comparing myself to other new Steemians, I am doing pretty good and the only thing that holds me back is time. While investing could make me a whale rather quickly, my idea was to invest nothing but my time. The hours may not equal to a quality pay rate since I spend at least 5 hours a day on the platform, I feel my time was well spent meeting new people and learning my way around.
According to Steemwhales you would need well over $1 million to get in the top 25 ranking whales, but what about a little whale? I am sure little whales have some good SP also! I believe that one starts to sprout into a whale at about $100,000 or more.
So when is a Steemian no longer considered a minnow? Are there no inbetweens? Can I be a rockbass? You're either a minnow or a whale. There doesn't seem to be any other fish in this pond :P
I am also very thankful for the following I've built. 70 and counting! I am excited 100! While it is not particularly easy to build a following, it has been quite the journey so far and I have to admit it requires a lot of thought and effort, but that's why I'm here. To think, to put in effort and to challenge myself.
As a token of my appreciation for this amazing community, I plan on doing much more promoting of the steemit platform, starting with my twitch stream. I've lost many followers since I stopped streaming but there are plenty of minnows to catch and provide home to in this pond of creativity we call steemit. Twitch. I considered perhaps making a post to signal when I am live, but I am not sure if that kind of self promotion would be frowned upon.
I have already gotten two friends to sign up and my stepdaughter. Every time my friends on facebook post something I feel is good content (such as tourist photo's) I let them know. Today I posted this:
The other day:
I see a lot of you posting "worthy content". Does facebook pay you to post?
No? Steemit does.
Before I started on Steemit I was browsing youtube videos bored out of my mind. Just nothing but waste as I wait for my business line to ring. Now I feel like I have a purpose again. I'm not rotting my brain anymore. I have Steemit challenges to complete that require me to get out there and find the best pictures to take. I have content to create and people to share this platform with. Now I'm fully addicted. I've signed up to d.tube and plan on uploading my first video soon! It's nothing big, but for those who've never played with snow, it'll be something to learn!
Next milestone to reach!
- 100 followers should be very soon!
- $250 value by end of January!
- $250,000 vests by end of January
Thank you for reading and God Bless!

I think you need somewhere around 10M vests to become a dolphin
ooo a dolphin! I hadn't heard of this term before! Thanks! :) I assume 1 million vests is about $1000 so 10 million vests is roughly 10 grand. Good info!
I just learn this recently, to be a dolphin (10MV) is about now 5000Steem, so at today's price >$17K now.
If you bought Steem when you join at about $1.30-$1.50 it's about $7500 to be a dolphin.
Someday very soon perhaps, we'll look back and everyone will go...I can't imagine Steem was so cheap at $1-$3 dollar back in Nov-Dec 2017.
I'm sure that we'll look back and be amazed by how cheap it was. So if 1 steem were to go up to 1k, I still wouldn't be a dolphin because I need 10 MV? Or will 10 MV be considered a whale by then? If that's the case, to become a dolphin will be very difficult in the future :)
Correct, with Steem you can be 1MVest abut 500 Steem today and still be a be a minnow. And
ifwhen Steem becomes $1000, you'll be half a millionaire....but you'll still be a minnow. In fact MVest and Steem is different. Steem is slowly appreciating (very important that it does this for many economical reason, 1 of them is so we can grow the user base and the economy of Steem to support them), but MVest does not, in 5 years time when Steem is way past $1000, to be a dolphin will still be 10MV, but that would be around 7500 Steem.
If you keep your Steem powered up as SteemPower, it will grow and match the MVest to Steem ratio.
That is important to know SP is actually more valuable than Steem.
Aren't you glad you asked :D
Go buy some Steem now while it's still less than $4.5 (at $4.5 we break the 1Billion market cap mark), when ETH broke the 1Billion mark it got the financial world's attention then it zoomed to 40Billion within year and half.
imagine Steem $4.5x40...you do the math
go buy some steem on every dip, your grandchildren will thank you!
Shit I was wrong......when you joint Steem was still between $0.90 and $1.1, you can be a dolphin for $5000.
Someday all dolphins will have more than $10Million, it's worth it to at the minimal have at last 1000Steem.
at Steem 100x today's price (never mind 1000 or 10,000) the SBD interest rate you will be paid is enough to sustain you to be basically (not luxury) financial free. If you're a dolphin, you will be taking multiple vacations every year!
But the SBD interest rate isn't even active... or do you need more vests to activate it? I haven't fully looked into the SBD interest rate yet. Very cool information here I am glad I asked. Hard for me to buy 1000 steem. I'd like to accomplish this with posting alone though. I'm tempted, and I know I'd be stupid not to. Thanks for your explanation!
Congratulations! That's really awesome!
Thank you!
Congrats - I've been here since around October and things really start to progress quickly the more engaged, active and participatory you become. I've followed you as I love keeping up with people who are positive and build the platform. Also saw you on MSP/PAL so gotta spread the love. :)
Thank you for the love! Gotta love MSP/PAL! I agree, the more engaged you become things really progress. Just a few minutes ago I collected .5 SBD from 7 days ago. Feels good to collect! Have a great day!
