d.tube: Hacked or forever gone?
It should be a competition for the overpowering YouTube, only better, safer and without an all-dominant company like Google in the background. d.tube was an alternative - certainly not the better YouTube, but one that was impressive.
Decentralized, based on the blockchain, tied the video platform services like steemit.com and allowed films to be shown there directly.
But now that seems to be over: If you call up the address d.tube, you no longer end up on the video platform, but on a page of the Heroku company that only says "There's nothing here, yet. Build something amazing ".
No indication of d.tube's whereabouts, no explanation for the cold takeover. "Choose Heroku for the same reasons disruptive startups do: it’s the best platform for building with modern architectures, innovating quickly, and scaling precisely to meet demand", it says only and "sign up for free".
Is d.tube hacked? Or forever gone? Heroka is a platform as a service (PaaS) that enables developers to build, run, operate and manage apps in the cloud. It's not a video service or something else.

Yes, it looks like it will work again, at the moment. But what should you think of a platform that just disappears and returns without an explanation? It is not serious, in my opinion.
This was a one-off. It doesn't appear and disappear all the time.
That said, DTube is somewhat buggy and sometimes slow. It's developed by one man or at most a couple of guys as far as I know. They take beneficiary rewards from the video posts made. But other than that, there is no funding. If the price goes up x100 like it did in 2017/2018, I'm sure funding won't be an issue. They can hire more developers to fix the bugs and develop more features. They will also able to pay for a higher capacity node on IPFS.
Buggy? Very! And when I asked for help I got blamed. I'm just going to upload to YouTube as it works and that's what dtube personnel said to do. I'm.jist not going to take an extra step to link it to dtube because why would I promote a service that rarely works. Blames the user for asking for help. And also can't host high definition videos.
Complete garbage customer service response. But that's what you get for something free.
I don't know about any customer service issues but I know the app is very buggy. I have decided to stop advertising it outside of the Steem ecosystem as a decentralized video hosting platform. It just doesn't work well enough.
Yeah I've long advocated posting through our ecosystem. We will see what happens.

Yeah if it's gone I hope a good video hosting system will come about. But 3speak wants $4 a month to host 2 hours of video... What? Make you money and we have to pay you?

I recommended to upload to youtube and LINK your content with dtube. But you dont wanted to listen.

Hey Sarah it works like a charm for me :) The advantage for you is that your video is faster playable (loading time is decreased) and it is available as long as it is available on YouTube and you can deliver 1080p and so on. DTube can not handle those higher resolutions and I think they will never because of the bigger filesize. Additional DTube supports the playback for around 1year at the moment but as more users come the shorter is this time.
The advantage for dTube is they don't need to store your video and more uses are willing to use DTube. You can also link Vimeo, instagram, Facebook and even YouTube Livestreams are working.
But if YT decides to delete your video it will be gone, right?

So it is the same thing share a video on DT as share it on any forum, social media app or blog. It makes nothing safer, it's only a little bit more widespread.
Yeah that's right. But on DTube you can earn steem and DTC. DTC is not worth anything right now in the test-net but they'll go in main-net and you will be able to trade dtc. That's the difference to sharing you videos on steem itself or on a blog/Reddit/twitter thing.
