[I Am Cicada] - Can We Really Replace Our Leaders With Code?

Not to be confused with Cicada 3301, iamcicada.com was first brought to my attention by reading @fortified's "[CICADA 3301] | An Exclusive Look At Who Could Be Behind The Internet’s Most Mysterious Puzzle" post.

Since visiting the iamcicada.com website a few times and reading through the whitepaper, I have been very intrigued by its goals and the problems it claims to be able to solve. To me, the most fascinating idea that they hit right off the bat with is replacing our leaders with code.

Reading the Cicada white paper reveals a very ambitious plan that I think would be awesome if it becomes the way for our future. It’s something I have had an inkling about for years. I just hadn’t been able to formulate the idea anywhere near as detailed as has been done with Cicada.

It’s quite surprising that there is a lack of discussion about it on the Internet. Well, I’m surprised, I would have thought there would be a lot more interest than what I’ve seen so far. A search in any search engine brings up very few related pages. If it wasn’t for @fortified's post I wouldn’t have known about it.

In the past few years, we’ve heard about revelations of government spying on private citizens and have had a loss of faith in our leaders to make the right decisions for us. Big Internet players such as Google, YouTube and Facebook enforcing censorship and tightening control of their content are driving people away. It’s appearing that an almost silent revolution of sorts is starting to brew.

The acceptance of Bitcoin, new economies emerging, a boom in Blockchain technology, and trend towards improved privacy and censorship avoidance is bringing us more freedoms and highlighs just how inept current leadership and control is.

Steemit is a player in this revolution too. With a decentralised blockchain, immune to censorship, linked to cryptocurrency and growing support, Steemit can only be ruined if the Internet is taken down. Even then I’m sure a solution to that would soon be established and another form of the network will take its place. We have a lot of smart people working together with our best interests at heart.

Hopefully something will grow along this idea even if it isn’t Cicada, Cicada will be something to keep an eye on in the near future for sure.

The only other mention of iamcicada.com here on Steemit is @frankbacon's ”BLOCK Network - What Frank Bacon needs to know” post. So he now has me interested in the following two sites also:

http://www.bitboost.net

The Block

"The block is a decentralized trading platform, eliminating the high fees of traditional e-commerce, while adding privacy and encryption. The platform is built on the decentralized Ethereum blockchain using smart contracts. No personal information or bank account is required to use it, and messages between buyer and seller are encrypted."

https://demonsaw.com

DemonSaw

"Demonsaw is a secure and anonymous information sharing application that makes security simple and gives you back control of your data."

"Demonsaw looks like normal web traffic. You can use it anywhere without being blocked or monitored by anyone.

Many years ago, I almost jokingly said to a friend of mine that we could do away with politicians and do everything by social media. It felt more like a prophecy at the time, now it feels closer to reality. So, what do you think? I like to think so.

Can we replace our leaders with code?

I like their ideas but they are isolationists not letting anyone contact them, not developing media or open conversations and you can't have e-democracy without the actual conversations so to me it appears like a nice idea but it's not going anywhere, no updates, nothing. I would prefer looking at projects that are open and encourage participation if it's to do anything with e-democracy.

I agree with your observation about them being isolationists and have no idea why that is the case.
They have put forward some great ideas and it would be a good idea for them to have a public forum on their website to discuss the ideas they propose.
It's such a complex subject with many parts to consider and I've been wondering if there is actual work being done or is the whole iAmCicada site just 'wishful thinking'?
There has been no update to the website since I made the original post and no one to contact.
The domain was registered on October 15, 2016

As anyone is interested in the perspective that could lead to support for projects like this with viability, please check out my writings that will continue on this topic. https://steemit.com/democratarian/@ripac/anarcho-democracy-defining-democratarianism

All watched over by machines of love and grace... ;)

Some are very graceful, not sure if all the love that's gone into them is reciprocated though?
Waving at you D-Wave

I was referencing this poem. I got the title slightly wrong, though. It is "loving" not "love and". https://allpoetry.com/All-Watched-Over-By-Machines-Of-Loving-Grace

I hadn't seen that before. I Like it.
Yeah, why not?
Trees, swaying in the wind powering nodes all over the place.
A totally connected world.
Robots paying the taxes and us enjoying the fruits of technology instead of being slaves to it.

Fascinating concept, Huxley would be proud. I would be concerned with the "herd mentality" and by seeing the idiotic things that go viral on other social media sites, it would definitely need to be designed correctly, can you imagine a world run by Kardashians?

Thank you @makecents
I understand the concerns you've raised but also have a feeling that a lot of that has to do with the current state of affairs.
I personally do not support any political party. To me it's just a puppet show, so watching the puppets spew messages of division and distraction, I believe you can blame those problems on them. So something like Cicader presents a possible solution out of that mess.
Hopefully the immortality of the Blockchain will discourage idiotic behaviour as appears to be evident here on Steemit. So far I've seen none of the kind of idiotic things that go on at other social media platforms here. There should always be room for idiocy in its own place as long as it doesn't interfere with the right of others.
Steemit is setting a great example how people all over the world can share ideas without fear of censorship and to top it off earn a form of income at the same time. That is already a great step towards freedom for many people.

I agree we tend to look at things from a "just now" bias. It will be fun to watch how Steemit evolves, we definitely live in exciting times.

We sure do.

I just caught this! Thank you for catching MY work.
Kind regards Bruv ; )

Cheers @frankbacon.
Love your work.
Steem on!
& Merry Christmas.
