Hello all

Good morning, today I was discussing in a crypto group for african entrepreneurs when something about storing and securing crypto private keys.

It got me thinking, what efforts have we actually used to protect our private keys?.

If research has taught us anything, many humans can easily be hacked as their computers contain so many loopholes its embarrassing.

Not to mention the fact that many people use weak passwords such as a spouses name or date of birth, or a combination of simple familiar words that should be no problem for a good hacker.

We visit websites, put our information, we fill airdrops and accept all sorts of email, click all sorts of links, etc

The prospects of getting hacked may seem impossible to you, but when you consider all the things youve done over the last 2 years with your phone and/or laptop, you realize that there are many instances where you could have given access of your files to a programmer without even knowing.

As simple as downloading a song, or app, or picture (alongside a malware) can do the trick.

So with the above information in mind, where does the majority of us keep our private keys?

A hidden file on our computer or in a nano ledger or thumb drive.... All easily and hackable areas.

See the thing is this, while private keys are notoriously difficult to hack, once obtained, just say goodbye to your funds as it cannot be changed..

Hackers dont bother cracking your blockchain.info wallet, instead , they just try amd obtain the password itself.

Blockchains like steem and EOS offer options to change password, but at the cost of losing decentralization, EOS the worst culprit here.

I recommend the paper wallet, the default go to place for storing information since the invention of writing.

Scrolls dating thousands of years are still unearthed today and with little work, the information within can be easily accessed.

For me, the best cold storage is a paper wallet, no questions asked.

Printing your passwords might seem old timely, but its far better than it being sfolen from your laptop.

All in all, if you want safety, and have millions in crypto, save it in a cold storage paper wallet.

There are crypto banks coming out to store cryptocurrency, but if we have been fighting the banks, why should we then be like them?

Paper wallets are easily transferable and efficient, if youre paranoid about losing it, print multiple copies, keep track of it all, save in different safe locations.

Keeping your private key is something that we all should be aware, you dont want to be the guy who, 6 years from now when btc is worth $1m usd and replaced fiat completely, is now hacked cause a hacker obtained your private key in 2018.

Thanks

True talk @destinysaid. Nothing beats the good old fashioned paper wallet.

My recommendation is to write and store your keys in 3-4 different locations.

The hacker or witch that can get past that configuration hasn't been born yet.

Yes o, nothing.

Maybe in the next 100 years when commercial xray or superman-like vision exist, but now? Make them sit down , hacker that cannor hack paper, is that one hacker? Lol

Thanks for the input, appreciate

Superman vision lol.
Thanks for the article it was informative.

As weird as it may sound, I write down every of my passwords. I have a specially dedicated book for that

Haha, bro, your own strong o, write down, i tried it once , missed a number and lost access to one Ethereum address I had. I was lucky it only had like $5 or so inside .... But its crypto, ten yesrs from now, the thing fit reach $1000.

I just print out nowadays

haha.. I cross check like i'm about to submit a research thesis to the WHO. I should adopt the printing strategy too. But the thing with procrastination enh!
