How to build a map for an RTS game? That's a good question. Here is a concept of how to redesign the originals.
The original maps consist of floors that can be negative or positive. The edges are surrounded by tilesets. These cliffs have several advantages. For example, it is possible to quickly create maps with few polygons that are bordered by these tilesets.
This is what my interpretation of this technique looks like to capture the charm of a good old RTS and export it in 3D.
Of course this is just a concept idea but here you are what I mean. I will not explain it further, it should explain itself.

Yes that's true. It's just a test on how best to build the old maps.
