Quonset Hut
In the past these Quonset huts were used for military housing. Now they make great housing for college students. My best guess is that each hut is approximately 40 feet long. They are divided in the middle, to make an apartment on each end.
The ingenuity is that the huts are kind of like a tin can. The owner literally cut a few flaps in the side of the building and inserted a window unit air conditioning or a window for light. A tiny porch overhang provides just enough room for a couple of chairs and a grill.
In my opinion a Quonset hut would make a perfect homesteaders place. Inexpensive and low maintence.

Very uniqu & fascinating. It has an adventurous aura around it. Would love to live in a place like this with a lot of open space and nature around. 😊💕. Great share, @mother2chicks

There was a place in Costa Rica that had a few of these. If I remember correctly it was one family that owned several and made homes out of them in the mountains. I thought it was a pretty good idea.

I haven't posted in a while. I just can't seem to write more of the same atrocities...And today may not be a good day either. One of my dogs is on his last gasps so I will probably have to have a burial today sometime. :{

Hi, @mother2chicks. We are still here. Just put in a heck of a week. We lost a dog yesterday. The violence continues non-stop and everyone is tired of the talks that go nowhere. We have been promised for 3 weeks that the UN and Eu would be sending envoys (more politicos and more talks) but they haven't shown up. I feel that we are on our own. Food is going to be in super short supply soon. We are okay but I assume that people will start showing up here looking for food. I already have the 21 am looking after already. My resources will only stretch so far. Every day people show up with wounds to be treated because the clinic close to us closed. and has been all month. I have had to take some time off from writing posts because I am overwhelmed and need some time to process everything and plan what our next move should be...
I know you have a back up plan. It’s not really like you to sit back and wait. You must be exhausted taking care of your tribe of 21. . Please take some time to collect your thoughts and rest yourself. The Adrenalin must be pumping through your system. My impression is the U.S. won’t be much help, however, I have heard of protesters supporting Nicaraguan’s, coming here for asylum. I wish you the best as it would be hard no matter what you decide to do. Post when you can to keep us all informed. Much Love to you my friend. 🐓🐓
these are a great idea for starter homes or low profile, cheap homesteading as long as you had air conditioning in the summer, man that would be an oven in the summer!
One would have to spray insulation throughout about 4 inches deep even in the winter. There is a lot more innovation in construction products than ever before. Just ask Siri! Lol

Yeah I have to agree that is pretty cool and it would only take a few modifications like you mention already on the post @mother2chicks to make it modernised and done.
If you had one in a shady place or even in a forest one might never know it was there. Camo paint it!
That's a awesome idea @mother2chicks and I guess with its shape it would be easier to cover it up with say old wood, branches, leaves, etc
