White Belt Curriculum - Installment 3
Continuing in our serial look at the first month in the white belt curriculum at our club. One interesting point that was called out last post was the fact that there is a 30-day free trial at the club. It could seem like an incredibly long trial, but it is providing very good value, and what better way to have someone continue to train than have them develop the habit of training over the month. Do anything for a month and it becomes habit.
Here is session 3 of week 1 which is mainly focused upon self defense as you may have seen in the other installments.
- Welcome to BJJ - https://steemit.com/bjj/@zekepickleman/white-belt-curriculum
- Taking it to the ground with control - https://steemit.com/bjj/@zekepickleman/tq82j-white-belt-curriculum
In today's lesson, Ryan gets into detail on the typical aggressive tactics kids and adults alone can face and how to defend and take control. A couple key take-aways I had from the class:
- Really good defense against the hockey/bar fighters that grab the shoulder
- Shoulder locks = good control
- The threat of damage is better for de-escalating a fight than doing the damage
- Donald Trump better not try and play any games shaking our hands!
Looking forward to your feedback and comments and I hope this is helpful for you and the people who are sneaking up on starting to train a martial art. You will wonder why you waited so long and come back here with your own education to pass along!
