BitPay crypto-processing service will add support for Ethereum

Payment processor BitPay announced this Monday that its customers will soon be able to use Ethereum cryptocurrency to pay for purchases at supported outlets. Ethereum will also be available for storage in BitPay wallet and recharge of BitPay Prepaid Visa Card.

Previously, BitPay supported Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash payments only, with the ability to pay in staple coins and to bank accounts.

It's great that BitPay sets the tone for the integration of Ethereum into the global payment system," said Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum. - This opens up a whole world of new opportunities for the Ethereum ecosystem.

Ethereum support for BitPay services is expected to be added within a few weeks.

BitPay was founded in 2011 and processed more than $1 billion in transactions over the past year, and has been the subject of frequent criticism recently, in particular because of the introduction of mandatory user verification for certain types of payments.

Last week, the alternative BTCPay service attracted $100,000 in funding from Square Crypto. Unlike BitPay, BTCPay developers promise to fully focus their efforts on improving the ability to make payments using Bitcoin.
