Why Did Facebook Ban Bitcoin?

in #bitcoin6 years ago

(Quick question: I had trouble uploading this to D Tube, any suggestions?)

This week Facebook announced they will be banning all ads for anything related to bitcoin, crypto, ICOs.
Why did they do this? Some say that Facebook has ulterior motives. I chat to tech journalist Josh Peterson about what he thinks.

Josh Peterson is a writer and a tech journalist living in Denver, CO. He is a 2016-2017 Robert Novak Journalism Program Fellow for The Fund for American Studies, studying the impact of artificial intelligence on democracy. He is also an advisor to PassageX, a blockchain startup tackling the secondary event ticket market, and the founder and publisher of The Coin Dispatch, a news and opinion site covering cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and artificial intelligence.

Bitcoin is unwieldy and not a good currency. Transaction fees are exorbitant, transaction processing times are excessively long, and frankly it just not good business.

I agree. Bitcoin is only good for bag hodlers ... not really useful for any other purpose ...

Hey man I wanted you to check out my most recent posts. I know what blockchain is suppose to be used for you got to see what im doing your gonna be all about it!

Big companies like Facebook generally always have ulterior motives and considering the threat they pose to it, they want to keep users as far away from crypto as they can and from decentralised platforms.

I barely even use facebook now, so as long as Steemit keeps going strong, we get some nice decentralised platforms to use instead of the general Facebook messenger etc everyone uses.

Yeah there's a lot of competition from, frankly, much better platforms these days...

Anticipating the ZuckerCoin

Ah yes, what better way to spark demand for your own social media coin :D

whatever ideas they are having they might just be too late

Quite possibly!!

The bitcoin video prophecy?

Thanks for the tip!!

Las cripto monedas están tendiendo un impacto en el sistema financiero y en la democratización de las transacciones a nivel mundial (ya no lo pueden controlar) , eso es su verdadero temor, al cual se están enfrentando. Este es mi humilde punto de vista.

I agree entirely!

Every famous Socialmedia websites like Facebook considering the cryptocurrency threat they pose to it, they want to keep his user away from crypto as they can because due to cryptocurrency platforms like steemit is really danger for his site it would be in great loss.

Yeah I'm looking forward to sites like steemit taking the crown :)

To be honest I find the ads on facebook really boring and a bit spammy. Check out this new ICO!!!!!! This is why people should be using steem :)

Well there are lot more people advertising on facebook than just spammy ICOs
