Cloud mining is more like a more elaborated way on betting that bitcoin/litecoin/other POW coins will go up kinda like a long.
I would say a crypto equivalent for shorting would be collateral based fiat pegs. You put 2x times to peg the coin in hopes the coins decrease in value and as such you make $
you are right pretty much ;) just most of them are scam on top, and this is not (at least so far)
