MtGox Exchange Boss Mark Karpeles Pleads Not Guilty In A Tokyo Court
Mark Karpeles who was the chief executive of MtGox, once the world’s biggest bitcoin exchange, has pleaded not guilty in a Tokyo court. Karpeles was charged with embezzlement and data manipulation after MtGox collapsed in 2014 due to the loss of 850,000 bitcoins worth $0.4 billion at that time.
MtGox blamed the loss on hackers in its bankruptcy filing though it later said it had found 200,000 bitcoins in old digital wallets.
Karpeles was accused of transferring bitcoins worth $3 million from a MtGox account to an external account registered in his own name in 2013.
