1. Litecoin Creator Charlie Lee Takes Active Interest In Nano Cryptocurrency

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/nanocurrency/comments/80c6fg/questions_about_nano_from_charlie_lee/

Key Highlights:

  • "Dev team with their heads screwed on straight. Good visions of doing transfer of value only and doing it right. Still not sure how it can achieve it without tradeoffs. But so far, I don't see any glaring holes in the approach."

Crypto Phil's Take:

This is massive exposure for Nano. Charlie Lee, the creator of Litecoin, is well respected within the crypto community. He had some fairly positive things to say about Nano today. Although the entire market rallied today, Nano in particular climbed up 12% within the past 24 hours. I'm willing to bet that Charlie's comments had a lot to do with that. It seems that Nano is recovering nicely from the recent FUD.

2. Crypto Markets Climb Towards Green, Bitcoin Above $10,000

Source: https://cointelegraph.com/news/crypto-markets-climb-towards-green-bitcoin-above-10000

Key Highlights:

  • "Monday, Feb. 26: the crypto markets are climbing back up today, with all of the top ten coins listed on CoinMarketCap in the green."

  • "Total market cap is up to around $450 bln, neither a high or low of this week, which had seen numbers above $500 bln and close to $430 bln."

Crypto Phil's Take:

I am feeling bullish overall. We seem to be staying consistently over the lows we saw in early February. The general sentiment across the various crypto communities I follow tends to be positive. Let's hope this uptrend continues.

3. Mobile Payments App Circle Acquires Crypto Exchange Poloniex For $400 Mln

Source: https://cointelegraph.com/news/breaking-mobile-payments-app-circle-acquires-crypto-exchange-poloniex-for-400-mln

Key Highlights:

  • "Multi-currency money-sending app Circle has announced today, Feb. 26, that they have acquired major US-based cryptocurrency exchange Poloniex for $400 mln"

  • “We also look forward to scaling Poloniex up and out through market expansion and localization, increasing token listings where possible and appropriate, and exploring the fiat USD, EUR, and GBP connectivity that Circle already brings to its compliant Pay, Trade, and Invest products.”

Crypto Phil's Take:

Circle is obviously making a big investment into cryptocurrencies. I think this is extremely good sign for the future. Circle is funded in part by Goldman Sachs. Essentially, we're seeing "big money" starting to take an interest in cryptocurrencies. This just adds further legitimacy to cryptocurrencies.

4. Bitcoin Core 0.16.0 With ‘Full Support’ For SegWit Gets Official Release

Source: https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-core-0160-with-full-support-for-segwit-gets-official-release

Key Highlights:

  • "The Bitcoin Core client version which provides “full support” to Segregated Witness (‘SegWit’) scaling technology finally received its official release Monday, Feb. 26."

  • "The technology further provides the foundation for more revolutionary upgrades to Bitcoin, including the so-called “second layer” solutions such as the Lightning Network which could see both fees and confirmation times reduced to near zero."

Crypto Phil's Take:

Can you believe it took this long for this release? Users have been clamoring for this since December, when fees and transaction times reached all time highs.

The biggest takeaway for me however is in that second quote. Lightning Network has the potential to reduce fees and transaction times dramatically. That will be a game changer for Bitcoin ( and potentially a show stopper for a lot of altcoins ) if Lightning Network is successful.

The release of Bitcoin Core 0.16.0 marks an important milestone in the development of Bitcoin. SegWit promises to reduce the transaction fees and processing times which have been the major concerns for users. If it addresses these concerns, Bitcoin is likely to solidify its position as the most popular network in the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry.
Meanwhile, two of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges, Coinbase and Bitfinex, have confirmed that they are going to launch the SegWit protocol on their websites: Bitcoin Core 0.16.0 Introduces Full Support for SegWit

Yup, as I touched upon in my post, I think SegWit and it's potential to help bring about Lightning Network is going to really help Bitcoin A LOT this year. It may pain some to hear this but I think it could have adverse affects on Litecoin long term ( And I hold a decent chunk of Litecoin ).
