미국과 중국, 중국과 미국. 세계 1, 2위의 강대국들인만큼 세상의 모든 일들이 이들과 얽혀있다고 말하더라도 과언이 아니다. 가상화폐 세계의 이슈들 역시 이들과 밀접하게 얽혀있다.

중국으로부터의 악재

중국은 아마도 세계 최대의 비트코인 생산지일 것이다. 그리고 최근 가상화폐 시장의 단기 악재로써 그 생산자들, 중국의 마이너들이 트롤링을 하고 있다. 계속 소개해온 것과 같이 비트코인의 블록 사이즈를 둘러싼 논쟁은 아직도 현재진행형이다. 대부분의 사람들은 중국 마이너들이 자신들의 경제 기반을 스스로 망가뜨리는 일을 하지 않을 것이라고 예측한다. 나 역시도 동의한다. 그러나 트롤링이 잦다보면 게임에서 지게 되는 경우가 발생하고, 그 여파는 꽤 클 것이라고 생각한다.

중국 마이너들이 실질적으로 segwit2x를 지원하면서 이 싸움은 여름내내 이어질 것으로 예측된다. 투자자들에게는 길겠지만, 개발팀에게는 한없이 짧은 기간이다. 과연 성공적으로 segwit2x를 런칭할 수 있을까? 나는 부정적이다. 그래서 중국으로부터 시작된 악재는 단기적이고, 결국 이 판의 근간을 흔들 수준은 아니라고 생각한다.

미국으로부터의 악재

최근 미 상원의회에 "자금 세탁, 테러 자금 조달 및 위조 행위 방지"라는 이름의 새로운 법안이 소개되었다는 소식을 전한 적이 있다. 그리고 그 법안의 다른 조항에 미 국경을 넘을 때 10k USD 가치 이상의 가상화폐를 보유한 사람은 이를 보고해야 한다는 내용이 있다고 한다. 이것으로 끝이 아니다. 미국인은 미국 외의 어떤 곳에서도 은행 계좌나 가상화폐 계좌를 개설할 수 없다고도 한다.

가상화폐 시장의 성장은 장기적으로 미국을 위협할 것이다. 기축통화로써 달러의 위상은 흔들릴 것이고, 이는 결국 미국의 국력 약화를 초래할 것이다. 미 정부 역시 이를 잘 알고 전력으로 가상화폐 시장에 대한 규제를 시행하는 것은 아닐까?

중국은 공산주의 국가이고, 미국은 자유민주주의 국가이다. 중국은 외환 유출 문제로 올해 초부터 가상화폐의 반출을 금지한 적이 있다. 나는 당시에는 중국이라면 충분히 할 수 있는 조치라고 생각했다. 그러나 이제 자유민주주의 국가인 미국에서 같은 형태로 제재를 가하려고 한다. 그리고 그 제재의 강도는 이 시장의 핵심 가치를 위협할 정도일 것이다.

Can they successfully launch segwit2x? I am negative. So, the negative factors that originated from China are short-lived, and I think that it is not the level to shake the basis of this world.

Negative issue from America

I recently reported that the US Senate introduced the new bill, which was named "Combating Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and Counterfeiting Act of 2017." The other parts of the bill require that those who have more than 10k USD worth of cryptocurrencies crossing the border must declare their ownership. This is not the end. Americans can not open bank accounts or cryptocurrency accounts anywhere outside the United States.

Growth of cryptocurrency market will threaten the United States in the long term. The dollar's position as a key currency will shake, which will eventually lead to a weakening of the US power. Does the US government know this well and enforce regulations on the cryptocurrency market?

China is a communist country, and the United States is a liberal democracy. China has banned the withdrawal of cryptocurrency since early this year due to the problem of foreign exchange. At that time, I thought China could do that. But now the United States is going to do the same thing. And the intensity of the sanctions will be high enough to threaten the entire market.
