According to NIST National Institute of Standards and Technology - CSRC Computer Security Resource Center:

In July 2017, approximately 80 to 90 percent of the Bitcoin computing power voted to incorporate Segregated Witness (SegWit, where transactions are split into two segments: transactional data, and signature data), which made it possible to reduce the amount of data being verified in each block. Signature data can account for up to 65 percent of a transaction block, so a change in how signatures are implemented could be useful. When SegWit was activated, it caused a hard fork, and all the mining nodes and users who did not want to change started calling the original Bitcoin blockchain Bitcoin Cash (BCC). Technically, Bitcoin is a fork and Bitcoin Cash is the original blockchain. When the hard fork occurred, people had access to the same amount of coins on Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.

Bitcoin is bitcoin always has been always will be. This wording is clearly intentionally misleading. No one should be surprised the powers behind Bcash have time and time again shown a propensity for trickery and misinformation.
Firstly, Segwit was activated through a soft fork not a hard fork. Important difference.
Secondly, the highest mining difficulty is still on the BTC chain, which would imply, at least in terms of market senitiment. That BTC is bitcoin.
This is just another attempt by Bcash interests to mislead newcomers into investing in Bcash as opposed to Bitcoin

Hi @renegadereptar no problems here with Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash. I like both. I'm being objective by reporting what NIST, a non-regulatory agency of the United States Department of Commerce, wrote. Word for word: Technically, Bitcoin is a fork and Bitcoin Cash is the original blockchain.

Hi @nandibear wasn’t questioning your own personal leanings. I was simply pointing out that the NIST is either being intentionally misleading or lacks understanding to a sacry degree.
Also notice how they don’t bother to call Ethereum Classic the real Ethereum, even though ETC is the original chain. 🤔

Thanka for the information and up vote sir

You're very welcome!

Removing the signatures is perhaps like removing the footprint, fingerprint, or DNA. That seems more of a complete overhaul. Some weird problems may occur down the road.

But in greater perspective, Litecoin was copying everything (the developer even stated it is a fork of bitcoin code) then just changing three parameters, 4x transaction block time, 4x coins, and hashing to another algorithm.

So it could be called Bitcoin Lite, does it matter? The final answer is no certainty which coin will be adopted by 60% of the world. Take out all those hateful naming, think it as Coin A, Coin B, Coin C. Then choose wisely.

One can call it DCash, or Magic Money but if someone purposely calling it a name to annoy others, then something diabolical is in their mind.

If this is true then wow we all thought it was the other way around!!

Hi @nandibear.....interesting post, I didn't know bcash was the real bitcoin, these fork things are so confusing. Maybe I should read a little more on this subject. Thanks for sharing :)

@practicaleric your welcome and thank you for your sharing your thoughts. Did you ever receive the laptop that you won in the contest? I forgot the Steemian's username who held the contest. It seems like it's been a while now.

Unfortunately I didn't receive any laptop, that guy @jimbojones just went quiet. I wonder what happened, am still waiting though, hopefully he will be in touch soon.

Very sorry to hear that you didn't receive the laptop. I too wonder what happened to @jimbojones
