BITCOIN ACCEPTED in the streets of Rio de Janeiro - The long way to go mainstream!

in #bitcoin7 years ago

So I was buying some fruits and vegetables at Feira da Glória in Rio de Janeiro, yesterday morning.
As every week.

I was really happy to see that a small tent selling candies and cakes had this little sign:
Bitcoin: accepted. here

Awesome.

I went to ask them if anybody paid with bitcoins and they said that not yet.
but may we be in the way for mainstream adoption?
How long do you think it'll take for us to make everyday buys with bitcoins or other cryptocurrencies?

Of course, taxes are a problem in this sense, maybe lighting network will change it,
being tech and hard for some users as well.
what else you think it may take for us to reach a wider population using crypto?

its going mainstream in a few years ~ We are early adopters! Cheers bro! Followed

I think the same, but if we started this year we're not even that early. but still good ;) thanks for the follow!

I always wonder though - why would anyone want to pay with Bitcoin, knowing the uptrend potential?
Buying a basket of fruit for 5 USD in Bitcoin may not be a lot, but even then as someone interested in crypto you likely assume that even these 5 USD may eventually be worth 10x as much in the upcoming years.
On the other hand, for bitcoin to ever reach huge valuations it has to be used as a currency and people need to spend their money with it on a daily basis - sort of a vicious circle!

exactly. right now it's really volatile. but they say that in the future price may stabilize...
until then I don't think it's be a bad idea to accumulate some.
but for sure it's still better to pay with fiat (less taxes).

anyway it's a really interesting social/economic experiment
