Checking In On Waves (WAVES)
Waves is a cryptocurrency platform that includes a wallet, decentralized exchange, and a tool for releasing tokens, ie. doing an ICO.
This is one I first mentioned at the end of June when WAVES was trading at $4.50. That was admittedly a bit earlier.
But I followed up and did a more comprehensive review at the end of October. At that time it traded at $3.50.
That would have been a great time to get in as WAVES is now above $14. Let’s see what’s new with the Waves platform.
The price move can be attributed to recent major upgrades of the Waves Platform.
In the first upgrade Waves-NG was launched on the mainnet on December 7. This is intended to improve the scalability of the platform.
The protocol is based on Bitcoin-NG which was developed by Cornell Professor Emin Gun Sirer. The Waves-NG protocol will enable the Waves Platform to handle up to 100 transactions per second. Not quite Visa-like levels, but per Waves, this will make it the fastest decentralized blockchain system in the world.
While on the mainnet, Waves-NG is not activated yet. That is slated to happen through the new Waves Activation Protocol, which is designed to ensure a safe hard fork. Per Waves it should happen at block 795,000 this coming December 15.
Then today, December 13, Waves did the public beta launch of the Waves Client 1.0.
The new client is a comprehensive redesign of the wallet and the user interface. According to Waves, it compares to the best online banking and trading platforms.
The best part is, according to Waves, its decentralized exchange will now be indistinguishable from that of any top-tier exchange.
As mentioned before these upgrades have led to a WAVES price surge. See the chart below.
I can’t wait to try out the new Waves. If their DEX is indeed comparable to centralized exchanges, that will be a monumental achievement.
But I’ll be the judge of that.
(I’ll also note here that on today, December 13, 2017, the Waves decentralized exchange has done $3.6 million in daily volume.)
I've look into Waves before, but I can't see them doing anything better than Ethereum. I get the impression that the recent spikes in most alts are driven by newbies fomo-buying in hopes of getting rich.
Always good to have some healthy skepticism. I'm going to check out the wallet to see how user friendly it is and I'll be watching the DEX volume as well. <$4m is so little. If that doesn't improve after the upgrades it'll be a sell.
I've been holding Waves a while now on their DEX. Very easy to lease your coins and get rewards without doing nothing. Awesome team, awesome project =)
