Vanuatu Now Accepts Bitcoin for Citizenship

I've just come across this article on bitcoin.com which states that Vanuatu now accepts Bitcoin as payment for their citizenship program. This makes them the first country in the world to so. It also says, that at current prices, this would mean 41.5btc would be needed to become a citizen.

I don't know too much about Vanuatu, except that from what I've seen it looks like a very pretty place! Maybe if you HODL long enough, the price might only be 1 or 2 BTC in the future.

There are some interesting facts about why people might want to become a citizen of the country, and also a tidbit about Cyprus, a place said to be making some 25% of its GDP with similar citizenship/residency programs. (Although not with Bitcoin obviously).

I think it's another great piece of news for Bitcoin and the crypto market, but what do you think? Is it enough to further move the needle towards more widespread adoption? I'm not so sure, but it's certainly a positive piece of news.

41.5 aint much when you compare it to investing 500.000 in the USA to get a green card...

Good point, is it that high still? I thought they reduced the number down to around $200,000 - $250,000 but maybe not. :-)

I am not sure, but I tried to apply for a greencard a year ago. Getting one is near impossible because you need relatives in the USA, you need to married in the USA or you need to invest a large amount of money. With other words you gotta be rich to legally immigrate into the USA No wonder everyone tries it illegaly.
