The Courage to Innovate Without Permission

My Summary

Since the beginning, mankind has strived to organize. Organization requires communication. As communication improves so does the ability to organize and achieve. It started with language, and then writing. As the organizations got bigger so did mankind's achievements.

We are now in a globalized world, yet pyramid power structures still exist. In a pyramid power structure work is distributed at the bottom and decision and power is funneled to the top.

This may work on small levels, but it does not scale. Let's take for example a construction site. The architect designs the building and hands it off to the construction company. The workers build the foundation, walls etc and the foreman makes sure work is being done and everyone is on track. At a small scale it's easy for a single worker to go to the foreman and bring up a problem, and this problem can be communicated upwords and a decision can be made. The same goes for small start-up companies as well. It's very easy for them to adapt as their leadership is close to the bottom workers.

Now let's look at a larger power structure. How about a fortune 500 company with hundreds of offices across the globe. Ever work for one of those? If you have you can understand how difficult it can be to make any sort of change or adaptation to the business. It's because the power and decision making always has to go up, and there are many levels of power.

With the improvements of email, texting voip etc communication has allowed these organizations to get to large unsustainable levels. It's time for decentralization.

Let's take the power away from the top and bring it back to the people.
