This country has the potential to restore gender equality to Blockchain @BlockRush
The Bitcoin and the crypto currency industry has a very bad reputation for gender equality in terms of users, developers, entrepreneurs and investors. If any nation could resolve this challenge, it is Russia and we would explain below.
The Bitcoin and Blockchain inequality has a very bad gender equality nation
Perhaps Blockchain with the highest percentage of female users is Steem due to Steemit. When it comes to other Bitcoin and Blockchain industries, female participation is very low. Less than 5% of developers of crypto currencies are women.
Russia has the highest number of female engineers
While women shy away from science and maths in most nations, Russian women do not shy away from science and maths. The country may have the highest ratio of women in science, technology and maths.
Russia can also boast of being the first nation to send a woman into space. Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space when she flew on the Vostok 6 on 16th June 1963.
During her 3 days in space she orbited the world around the 48 times. Russia has an impressive female literacy rate of 99.97% according to UNESCO.
How important is gender equality for Blockchain?
Female participation in the Bitcoin and Blockchain industries is very important due to the several reasons, I will outline a few of them:
- women would bring new perspective to the industry
- women are the largest shoppers
- women are the main users of remittance services
In summary, the participation of women in cryptocurrency would introduce new talents to the industry while also increasing its patronage.

Most users/developers only go by their online handle so gender is irrelevant. The best contributors will rise to the top. There is no way to tell whether a male or female or whatever of the 96 genders people are pushing these days wrote a piece of code just by looking at it.
Exactly, gender is irrelevant.
Should be irrelevant, but the fact that there is no tendency towards a 50/50 (random selection) indicates a systemic problem.
BTW, do you remember the cases of women programmers hiding their gender to avoid problems related to that? Sexism is still a thing, even in technology.
You suggest there should be a 50/50 distribution. Thats where things go wrong.
I am not suggesting there should be a 50/50 distribution, I suggest that in a non-sexist situation, statistics would tend to 50/50. It is not the same
You tie it it to the concept 'non sexist situation'. Is everything not 50/50 distributed 'sexist' then?
Well, I see your statistics are not excelent, so end of discussion. Sorry if you fear of women taking your job, you can still go to cry at/pol/
I see only one shying away when pressed for an explanation.
I agree there is a need for more women in the crypto field. I knew it was low, but didn't realize less than 5% developers. It is sad fact. More women need to take part. Hopefully as time moves forward this will change and more women become involved.
Where is this 5% figure coming from if most contributors only go by an online handle? There is no real way to measure it.
I agree, once put in that perspective. And you are correct the best contributors will rise to the top., be it male or female. The best shall rise.
