12K in STEEM Power Delegated in Prizes - What are the Winners Doing? Steemit Business Intelligence

in #bisteemt7 years ago (edited)

Delegating Steem Power is a hot topic at the moment on Steemit.  Everyone wants to have more power, and those with Power seem happy to share it. From leasing and renting Delegation to winning it, there are many ways you can get your hands on extra delegated steem power to boost your account.

One of the best ways to get it is to win it.  And one such contest that offers Delegate Power as a prize is MSP MakeaMinnow Contest.  In this contest you can win up to 10k in Power.  Awesome.

12 days ago MSP MakeaMinnow Contest announced #3 winners – You can read the full post here

https://steemit.com/makeaminnow/@msp-makeaminnow/make-a-minnow-3-winner-announcement

but to sum up, @wandrnrose7 won 10k SP, @inquiringtimes and @goldenarms both won 1K SP.

So how is this Delegated Steem Power being put to work?

Well for those of you that are very new to Steemit, the more power you have, the more your vote is worth to an author.  It also plays a roles when it comes to earning curation rewards.

Let’s have a look at the data and see how they are using their new found power.  To carry out this analysis I can connected Power BI to   @arcange's  steemsql.  I have also used Steemnow to calculate the pre and post vote worth.  I have taken the 10 days before delegation as pre delegation and the 10 days after as post delegation.

High Level Overview

Pre Delegation

Post Delegation

In fairness, each of these steemains were active voters before the delegation, however @wandrnrose7 was voting 62 times a day. 2.5 times that of @inquiringtimes.  This ratio does not change much from post to pre with @wandrnrose7 killing it with 1041 votes since receiving all that power.

There was a 10% increase in the number of votes made post delegation for the same period of time.  That is awesome.  But what is even better is the 340% increase in the payout value.  This went from $37 in a 10 day period to $164.

The number of unique authors, to my surprise, reduced after delegation!

What also stands out from these two visualizations is the average % weight use in voting.  Only @wandrnrose7 has reduced the weight per vote by a material amount.

Hope I don't offend by a bit of self voting. If my votes were worth $20 each, I would like to think that I shared them in a way that benefits the community and myself in a balanced way, as I hope I do now. Full disclosure, I asked Paula to do an analysis on my voting habits post delegation.

My voting practice, is to binge vote which ever friends are right in front of my face at a given moment, and it would take a longer analysis over the course of a month or so to show who my real favorites are lol. But @yusaymon being at the top of the list makes sense, and I'm glad that this delegation came in time for me to help him during @yusaymon appreciation month. I also tend to vote every legitimate comment left on my posts, or replies to my comments out in the world.

When my votes are worth a bit more(or even now), I'll be happy to have community insight and feedback if there are any questions or concerns about how socially beneficial my voting habits are.

I think you guys spread it out alright. No hate here. Congrats on winning the delegation too you guys! And that network chart is awesome. I wish there was a website we could see and compare stuff like that in

yes! it would be so excellent for us to have an easy way for us to analyse our voting habits!

It's really interesting to see the different methods of curation represented.

In a case like this I see increased self voting as a long term strategy to gain more steem power you otherwise couldn't get.

I'm on my phone so I can't see the charts, but don't be apologetic if your self voting increased. It's a wise thing to do with this gift. The more steem power you can gain through it, the more you can share the wealth in the long run.

looking at the numbers again, I'm realizing that pre-delegation I gave away $20 and gave $1 to myself. post delegation I gave out $65 and kept $4 for myself
all in all, I gave away $40 more than I did before the delegation
I'm not good at math, but when I look at it that way, I feel like we all won!

This is what i've been looking for.. I really want to have a bigger delegation not just to my self but to help my community as we started to grow. Thank you for sharing this, but can i ask a question about the contest? When will be the next contest?

The next one will start in about a week, you can follow @msp-makeaminnow and look for the next nomination thread!

ok madam... thank you so.

This is an interesting analysis as usual Paula, I'm happily to see our winners are spreading the love and seeing the increased amount they have been able to give with their votes makes me so happy. Thanks for making awesome posts!

Thank you for the in depth analysis, this is very interesting and I do try to spread the love all over. I really apreciate the chance to be able to vote on great content!

@wandrnrose7 you do an awesome job, keep up the good work, its steemains like you that keep the platform alive

Thank you for the kind words and support!

Very impressed with your use of Power BI for this type of analysis. Great work!

Might drop by your discord channel some time soon. Power BI user here as well and would like to learn from you guys and possibly collaborate

would love you to join us. it be nice to have another power bi user on board. Its such an awesome tool

It's great to see how the prizes for @msp-makeaminnow are used. I personally (and I'm a sponsor, not an organizer so this is my own opinion) have very few expectations on how winners will use their prizes. IMO prizes are predominantly a reward for past behaviour and only a tiny bit an expectation of future behaviour.
Having said that, it's excellent to see how much value the @msp-makeaminow winners and (sur-prize winners) are bringing to their communities. Thanks for the analysis. Steem On.
