Steemit Post Beneficiaries- Exploring the data for InsightssteemCreated with Sketch.

in #bisteemit7 years ago

7 months ago a fork on Steemit made it possible to set Beneficiaries for payments on posts.  This means that you can co-author a post and ensure the payments go to the right person allowing more collaboration among authors. It also allows App creators take a cut of Authors payouts and gives developers an opportunity to split rewards.

When I looked at the data I found 880K posts where a beneficiary was appointed.  Over 21K different authors have shared post payment with 463 different Steemit accounts.

Looking at the charts below we can see the number of posts per month that included a beneficiary, the distinct number of authors per month that included a beneficiary on their post and the final chart shows the number of beneficiaries each month.

The first major adaptor of the ability to allocate beneficiaries was @good-karma and @esteemapp.  Looking at the data, it seems the esteem app went live around the 18th April.  Soon after that @chainbb began testing and then went live, followed by @steepshot.  In between these apps, the table below also shows the first few testers and early adaptor beneficiaries on Steemit

Still looking at the beneficiaries, sorting by the number of posts made that included payment to that beneficiary.  @esteemapp has been included in almost 75% of posts made that include a beneficiary

The Average of benif. % share represents the average % payment on the post that they were rewarded and the Total Benif. $ Share represent an approximation of the total rewards received from these posts*

* The DAX expressions used to calculated rewards is made up of the following calculated columns added to the data model

Post Value = Comments[pending_payout_value] + Comments[total_payout_value]

Author share = Comments[Post Value]*.75

Benif. $ share = Comments[benif. % Share]* Comments[Author share]

The total payments share received or pending to beneficiary’s since this feature launched is $40,239 and this can be visualised by months in the chart below

Looking in more detail at the top 7 beneficiaries over time based on the $ value shared with them we can see that both @chainbb and @esteemapp peaked in June and have been on a downtrend since.  I was expecting to see a reverse of this downtrend in October as there were problems with Steemit.com however this does not seem to be the case

Here is a high level overview for @esteemapp

@chainbb

And @dtube

I also looked at the Authors that were sharing rewards with other steem accounts.  This would represent users of Apps and Co-authors on posts.  The table below shows Authors sorted by the number of posts made that included a beneficiary

We could sort the same table to show which author has shared the most in terms of payout

The network chart below shows the relationships between the beneficiary’s and the authors

Do you Co-author posts and share rewards? if so I would love to hear your feedback and experiences on the ability to do this.  Please comment below

Do you own or use an App that uses the beneficiary feature to ‘charge’ users for posting? What do you think about the data shown around this?

This is the first time I hear the concept of co-authorship and I'm definitely interested in knowing more. Actually, one of my friends in real life life asked me a similar question not long ago and I didn't know what to answer.. Now I'm quite surprised to know that there is such a thing!

Also, I'd like to join your conversations in discord, your posts are pretty educative and I would also like to participate in that forum.

Thank you for your analysis and sharing this information!

How can you co-author on steemit.com? do you need a special app to set them for your post? shouldn't they also be displayed below a post to make it transparent?

Hmmm great questions ... I was also thinking about making these same questions, but it is not necessary to co-author them ... let's hope someone can enlighten us ... :D
