Should the law be respected if it is a bad law?

I usually don't do that. In my blog I talk about our animals and sometimes about the animals of our friends. But this post will be an exception, because this is a situation that we are already observing for the second day and it is very nervous for us.

Today my friend wrote to me and asked if we could take some new birds - goldfinches. She said that such a need might arise because 1500 goldfinches were confiscated by customs and are now there. I decided that she was kidding me. But the truth was terrible.

The birds were indeed confiscated from a Jordanian citizen who tried to take them to Jordan by presenting forged documents. The birds were confiscated. But, since they became material evidence, the customs officers prohibited to open the boxes. The birds began to die. According to zoodefenders, about 1/3 of birds have died so far. Now people pass on food for birds.

Below you see a link to the video (to watch, you have to wait out the advertisement). The cells were moved to the racetrack near the international airport, but officials still do not allow them to open. All you can do to help the birds is to feed them through the trellis and give them water.

We are all waiting for further development of the situation. Unfortunately, our laws are so stupid that the officials would rather let the birds die rather than let the zoodefenders move them to normal conditions.

Recently, a similar situation was with the sheep. But the customs authorities have not learned anything. We hope that under the pressure of society they will start thinking faster and the birds will be saved.
