One of the birds sighted throughout the Americas; in the north you can easily spot them in the bird houses that people place in their gardens so that this small and curious friend commonly known as House Wren nests in them.

We have observed the common wren in Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida in the United States and we have also reported it in Colombia,South America in different departments such as: Tolima, Antioquia and Caldas. Apparently the Troglodytes aedon is an amazing traveler who rejoices with his song to the great America.

In the Colombian Andean area the House Wren is more elusive or timid, since it lives in rural areas, especially in the first level of the ground, I mean, among the chusquines or bushes that are closer to the forest areas far from the population .

Although there are reports of sighting of this species in some gardens of the town, (Líbano Tolima) with some involvement of population. Their nests seem to be very closed, because it only shows a small hole where only one small body would fit.

The Common Wren, as its spanish name indicates, feeds on insects, especially cockroaches, also on worms that it finds among the old trunks.

Once again we see how birds help us keep biological control over insects and we owe a lot to Troglodytes aedon for doing a job of feeding on insects that some of humans do not like, especially cockroaches.

One of my favorite little birds! They are so feisty and simply do not back down! When they have young in the birdhouse they shout at me each time I come out the door! Great info and photos!

Thanks a lot. It gives Me great joy that this little bird will visit you. ;)
