THE SYNDICATE (a flash fiction story)

The syndicate had kept to their promise. They were not going to be silenced and if the government was going to cancel all their operations and take them out, then they were going out with the big bang.

It had taken Eric seven dead bodies to get the information he wished he never had. The big bang was just a threat, it was gonna happen in about 15 minutes.

The syndicates had infiltrated the government house where the world leaders will be having a closed door meeting and had planted a bomb there, the big bang.

The meeting was about how to bring the syndicate and every of their associate all around the world down. And yet unknown to them, in that same building a time bomb was to go off anytime soon.

Among the seven men, only one had agreed to give Eric the password to deactivate the bomb for his life to spared in exchanged. Eric thought it was a fair deal and agreed but Eric wasn't religious so he broke his promise, another sin God will have to forgive him for.

"Three, Two, Nine" the man said before Eric sent a bullet flying into his head.

It took Eric 7 minutes to pinpoint the exact location where the bomb was hidden and now all he had left was 8 minutes to input the coordinate and deactivate the destructive device. But Eric felt like screaming out loud in frustration when he found out the password was a four digit password. "3,2,9" was all the dead syndicate gave him and that meant one digit was missing.

3 minutes was all that was left for the bomb to detonate and Eric wasn't getting any lead on what next to do. He thought about raising and alarm and asking everyone to evacuate the building but it was a little too late for that now.
"58,57,56" the final count down began then an idea struck Eric.

What if the dead syndicate meant to say triple two nine and not three two nine.

"20,19,18" the countdown continued.

There was no chance for mistake as just one trial was allowed to be inputted. If the wrong coordinate were inputted, the bomb will go off, If he doesn't do anything now, the bomb will go off. So Eric took a deep breath and followed his instinct. He raised his finger and placed in the coordinate 2229.

And immediately, the countdown stopped.
