Big boys toys contest

in #bigboystoyscontest7 years ago (edited)

Hi Stemians, thinking outside the box, this is an entry into Big Boys Toys contest run by @claudiaz .

It's a single exposure using the reflection of myself in a burger joint window, combining it with the scene outside to make it look like I'm playing with my big toy bus. You can just make out the reflection of my Fuji x100s camera in my hand that appears to be holding the bus.

I hope you find this interesting. It's one from a series which I will be posting more about in the near future.

I love the scale difference of the two girls chatting in the street, unaware of the giant playing with the bus behind them. This, along with the slight fuzzyness of my reflection which is created by the double glazed window, gives this photograph a very surreal feel, as if perhaps a cross over of two planes of existance being seen at the one time.

Thanks for looking. I hope you enjoy it.

that is indeed very creative, thanks so much for your entry @martinsandersuk

Thanks @claudiaz, you're very welcome. Thanks for running the show. :)

This is amazing! Totally crazy that is a single exposure, seems like a (very skillful) Photoshop job. Really good eye to see that possibility, and yeah the two girls in frame give it such a hilarious scale. Awesome. Much love - Carl

Hey thanks bro @carlgnash, really glad you like it. It's hard to find places to pull it off, the specs are narrow, but I have a couple of places and a series of this kind of stuff, based on trying to create what others do with photoshop, with just the use of the camera. I'm not against photoshop of course, it's amazing, but in the 'street' genre of photography, manipulations in photoshop is a big no, no. So I set about creating them in camera. There doesn't seem to be a 'street photography' following or movement here on steemit, despite it being one of the most popular forms of photography practiced today, apart from selfie's of course, which this could technically be called, lol.

I will blog a bit about this in the not too distant future. A plate to clear first though ;)

I wonder if it would be worth me trying to start a 'street' genre community here somehow. I'm sure I could attract a lot of my fb followers and fellow photographers over if a scene developed for it. Mmmmmm something fo me to think about anyways. Sorry to miss @openmic this week, it's been an exhausting one, but I'm sure I'll be there again next week.

Thanks to all for the upvotes here good stemians, it's truly very much appreciated and heart warming too.
