Jim and Josephine were two California activists for the Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign and remained active in the community in the months following Sanders' withdrawal from the race.
Bernie Sanders' was in February and accused of not doing enough to combat "infiltration" of his campaign by trolls from Macedonia and Albania believed to be under Russian control. Media outlets relied on the account of an investigative journalist named John Mattes from the San Diego metro area. The following media groups relied on Mattes' account:

- By their account Mattes was never an administrator in their groups.
- Mattes never responded to the other members' criticisms of his account.
- In his statements Mattes claimed that he had informed Clinton-Kaine 2016 of the "infiltration" but claimed that he had done so through American Bridge 21st Century, a David Brock-led SuperPAC. As a practicing attorney, Mattes should have known that Super PACs are prohibited by law from contacting candidate campaigns. Either he knew American Bridge was in contact with Clinton illegally, or he was in league with Brock to begin with.
- He never claimed to have contacted Sanders' office, but did claim to have spoken with a "very senior" Obama Admin. national security expert.
The #Russiagate investigation may have been one of the worst hoaxes perpetrated on the American public and indeed the world at large. It has dragged through the gauntlet of a media inquisition people of conservative, liberal, progressive, libertarian, and even non-political dispositions.
Tomorrow we speak to two people, private citizens, who were personally doxed and smeared long after the campaign ended.
