BEER SATURDAY | BEER TRANSPORT - NORTHERN EUROPE PIONEERS

Hello everybody,
Today it's #BeerSaturday by @detlev!
This is my entry, thanks for the opportunity.

For this saturday I'd love to share with you something different, a story that comes from a main question:

Beer is definitely a fantastic product, but how does it gets to our pubs?

When a producer has to deliver to buyers huge ammounts of beer, the choices made on the methods of transportation goes to affect not only the cost of the beer itself, but also the environment and territory.
Two ecological choices come from northern Europe and I hope it will be an example to follow for many in the future.

The Belgian company De Halve Maan has decided to reduce road transport by 85%, using a system of underground polyethylene ducts with a lenght of about 3 km.

The "beerway" will transport beer directly from the brewery to the bottling plant through an advanced computer-guided drilling technique. In 15 minutes the beer reaches the other side of Bruges preserving not only the environment, but also the beautiful historic city center, UNESCO's heritage.

Naturally, citizens, tourism and the company itself benefit from this, which saves on the cost of transport, reducing almost all the emissions caused by trucks.

The cue comes from two previous examples of the same type, albeit on a very small scale, in Germany and Ohio.

The Dutch are also committed to reducing the environmental impact caused by the transport of large quantities of beer by road.
To reduce emissions and the cost of oil, Heineken has inaugurated its own port, making deliveries no longer by road but through the channels , thus avoiding the creation of traffic in the historical center of Amsterdam, delays in deliveries and a loss of freshness in beer.

It is essential to try to make intelligent and eco-sustainable choices.
Big up for those who are committed to maintaining natural balance and finding new solutions!

thank you will see more besos from 🇲🇽

A beerway. That is awesome. I can see how it would work in a high population area. Would love to see if it is possible in somewhere like Australia. Great post.

I do agree with you!
There are so many interesting facts around beer!!
The Belgians have an amazing beer tradition, so the know how to think out of the box!
The Dutch have been thinking out of the box since ever! We could follow a good example from a lot of things and not only from beer! (:
Thank you for your comment!

Cheers!!

I'm going to have to visit Belgium. I do love their beer. And the city looks incredible, so much history. It's strange thinking that Australian cities have only been around for a couple of hundred years while places like Brussels have been around for thousands of years. There's so much history and knowledge in a place like that.

Yes, I can understand what you're thinking about, I live next to Rome (Castelli Romani) and every corner is full of history!! I always loved the idea to live in an Australian city, I've got some friends living in Australia, everything is so pure natural and...new!
Nature is so strong and beautiful! And population density is not so high, it makes me feel like there's a lot of space for everyone (:
I'd love to visit Australia one day!
It's written on my bucket list! (:

If you'll get to visit Rome one day, you know you have a Steemit friend to take a good beer with! :D
