Well, let's see what we've got here! I was looking for this beer for weeks. Well, I saw it in the shop, but my choice was different every time and I delayed it for a while. Now the time had come! And here's the Nøgne Ø - Hoppy Kveik (Farmhouse Ale).

Maybe some of you have heard about the Kveik beer yeast, and of course the beers, also called Kveik by the name of the yeast. I did some further research about this yeast and this is what I know now.

My knowledge was, that this is yeast, which is capable of fermenting beer wort in extreme conditions like higher temperature for instance. As a result it produces a lot of esters and phenols, which blend perfect in maybe something similar to Belgian wit beer, but more pronounced orange peel, spice flavors, than the fresh lemon like Wit tastes. I know people fermenting their Kveiks at about 30-35 degrees Celsius, which is completely impossible (or maybe its better to say completely unpleasant) for the ordinary yeast species.

What's the new thing, which I learned is, that actually Kveik is Norwegian dialect word for yeast. It's a completely non-purified yeast and is used for generations in Norwegian farmhouse brewing. Kveik is not a single type of yeast. It is very likely, thanks to the wild source, the different Kveik cultures don't even belong to the same species. They even sometimes consist various microbes and bacteria, which makes every Kvaik strain completely different by the others.

I like very much the way they are branding their caps too, and hope that one day I will have the same (well... different from these) bottle cap style, because it seems a great touch to add your logo on the top of the bottle. It just completes the perfection of the bottle's design.

Well, now to the beer!

Just after opening it I immediately smelled the phenols from this yeast. Very strange in the beginning, but gradually fading away and making some space for the citrus orange notes and the spicy hints, followed by the aroma of fresh hops. Actually the first sip was a bit hard. I wasn't completely aware what I was going to try, but with the second one, the things got back to normal. With the third sip I started enjoying this beauty a lot!

An interesting thing is that When opening the bottle and pouring in the glass a lot of foam formed and it started to run off a little bit!

At the end of the glass the beer reminded me a lot of a great IPA, or maybe a white IPA! Very fresh, very hoppy, in one word - beautiful. The tropical sweetness of the hops was a perfect match to the character of this beer. It has somewhat dry finish and a bit bitter one. Really seem like a beer, a lot bitter than the stated 30 IBUs on the bottle.
I think it will definitely will not suit the taste of everybody, but it's definitely a thing to try! I am even considering of trying to grow a Kveik culture from the dregs, which remained in the bottle. I just hope the beer is not pasteurized! Then my hopes will have been in vain!

The final conclusion is that this beer will be a great mate for the hot summer days.
Cheers, and happy #beersaturday! Wish all the participants good luck with their various beer posts.

@therealwolf 's created platform smartsteem scammed my post this morning (mothersday) that was supposed to be for an Abused Childrens Charity. Dude literally stole from abused children that don't have mothers ... on mothersday.
