Beers in Ljubljana. Happy beersaturday, fellows!

in #beersaturday6 years ago (edited)

Well, I’m back. The last week I spent traveling, so there wasn’t a #beersaturday post from me. This week I’m back and I’m continuing my walk in the fairy land of beautifully crafted beers. (This sounded strange... LOL)

I decided this week to share a story from Ljubljana, where I was the last Saturday, instead of tasting a very special beer, that I bought from Slovenia too. So, riding our bicycles in the peaceful Ljubljana, I and my girlfriend went to an international food festival, which is held annually in the capital of Slovenia. While she chose some spicy Egyptian (maybe) meat, I sticked to some local beef in a colored bread. Well, it really looked strange all in black, but was really awesome.

And what will be a better dessert, than a great cold beer? Eh? A quick search in google led us to a nearby beer shops and I was really concerned to have something local. The guy in the shop was very helpful and as I requested his representation of the local craft beer stage, he took me in front of a big shelf. He started with some not very popular beers and he reached the BEVOGs. My reaction was “Ugh? Aren’t these bevogs from Austria?”. I strongly believed, and was pretty sure, that BEVOGs were Austrian products. I was really interested to hear the dude’s explanation on this.

”No, my friend, actually these are Slovenian. The owner of Bevog is actually a Slovenian guy. He had some trouble registering his brewery in Slovenia, and the Austrian laws were much more pleasant for the craft beer industry. So actually the brewery is just 10 kilometers away from the Slovenian border and almost all the production is imported in Slovenia. Now all the Slovenian people are trying to convince this guy to come back to Slovenia and brew here, but these are 10 years of constant evolution and progress. Still, everyone loves Bevog beers!”

Well, I couldn’t stand this and together with the 2 not so popular Slovenian IPAs, I bought a very special Bevog. I decided to keep this one for Bulgaria.

The 3rd pill was described as one of the 2 best IPAs in Slovenia, while the other one was said to be exclusively tasty and fruity. My first sip was from the 3rd pill. I have to say that it was really tropical and very flavorful and hoppy. The guy from the shop was right about it. The pity was, that after tasting the Grim Reaper, I found the 3rd pill somehow weak in tastes. This Reaper was absolutely a blast f tropical fruits, and I could definitely smell and taste a very pronounced Pine freshness there. It was definitely top of the top.
The 3rd pill was a 6% minnow, while the Grim Reaper was boosted to 7% of alcohol, which were very well covered by the hops. I really cannot tell the how was the color, cause we drank the beers straight from the bottles.

I was really happy with these Slovenian beauties and enjoyed a very nice and peaceful break by the river.

Well, I will definitely visit Slovenia again. In my opinion one of the best countries to visit and see how great the people live there with all these tasty beers around.

Cheers!
