Semi-Skimmed Occultist - BrewDog - Beer Review
Semi-Skimmed Occultist - BrewDog
Beer Review
Semi-Skimmed Occultist is an 8% Oatmeal Stout made by BrewDog in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. BrewDog is a massive craft-beer outlet that began in 2007 by two guys and a dog that were sick of the industrial beers that dominated the UK market. Now BrewDog has over 1,000 employees, 70,000 shareholders, 46 bars and still just one dog. BrewDog recently opened a massive brewing facility in Columbus, Ohio and is working on a new brewery in Brisbane, Australia as well. The Semi-Skimmed Occultist was BrewDog's first small-batch canned release of 2017. It is touted as being a Milk, Coffee, Chocolate, Oatmeal, Vanilla Stout and it certainly was a mouthful of flavor. I tried this beer while I was in Ireland visiting @cneck a couple weeks ago.

The Can
The 12 oz can features artwork from a London based art studio called The Red Dress. It's a dark blue can with the words 'Occultist' in bright orange letters. A bald man (presumably the occultist) is summoning a bubbling cauldron of beer in the middle of the can. The back of the can listed the ingredients in multiple languages.
The Beer
As you can see in the photo below, the head bubbled up nicely when I poured the Semi-Skimmed Occultist into a glass. The beer below the foam was light and smooth with a deep flavor. Chocolate and roast espresso fill the palate at first taste with a hint of vanilla to follow. The bubbly carbonation creates a pleasurable mouthfeel. Overall it's a tasty stout that makes for a delicious drink on a cold rainy night.

Fantastic beer my friend @jeffjagoe, I really get a lot of attention the design of the can, since it is something terrifying for the man "Occultist" because of the way he looks at the beer bubbling, but without any doubt the design is perfect and only in addition to the name of the beer. I love how beer looks in the glass, with all that foam on the top and that dark color mmm makes it more majestic, it reminds me of this beer to a very well known drink here in the country and that it sells a lot, that It is called "Malta", the color is very similar to this one and it is very refreshing also very cold, but this malt does not have alcohol, if not it is a drink like soda. I love that combination of chocolate plus vanilla, together in the beer should be an incredible and original flavor.
This just looks awesome, I try to buy the weirdest / coolest thing I've never seen before when I go buy beer. I'd definitely try this one. Thanks for sharing.
