Abner - Hill Farmstead - Beer Review
Abner - Hill Farmstead
Beer Review
Abner is an 8.2% alcohol/volume Imperial/Double IPA brewed by Hill Farmstead in Greensboro Bend, Vermont. The Hill Farmstead is a revival of tradition that went back over 200 years. In 2010, Shaun Hill brewed the first batch of 'Edward' at what now became Hill Farmstead brewery. It was in the spirit of heritage that Hill Farmstead was launched, to create craft brews just like the Hill family did for centuries in North Greensboro, Vermont. I stopped by the Hill Farmstead on my way home from Jay Peak last month and snagged a growler of the Abner. The brewery was located on a farm on top of a hill. The brew and tap room were clean and impressive... and the beer was delicious!

The Bottle
The large growler at Hill Farmstead was awesome! It is 2 liters instead of the usual 64 ounces and has a wonderful top. The shape is pretty cool too (it's rather bulbous). It's a great way to take home a hefty pour of beer. The front of the growler has the Hill Farmstead logo.
The back of the label reads the following:
"Hill Farmstead Brewery is the culmination of travel and insight, of friendships and explorations, and of realizing a sense of one’s place. Upon the hand hewn land of our forebears, we honor eight generations of Greensboro ancestry by thoughtfully engaging with our heritage and with the spirit of our artisanal farmstead ales. This offering is our effort to revive, diversify and prolong the memory of the Hill Farmstead. Share. Consider. Enjoy.”

The Beer
I took the growler home and enjoyed it with my friend @kirm-it just a few days after picking it up. The beer was still fresh and delicious. Abner (1867-1953) was the great grandfather of Shaun Hill (brewmaster at Hill Farmstead). The Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his fourteen kids. The Abner is an unfiltered and double dry hopped IIPA, crafted from American malted barley, a load of American hops, and water from Abner’s well. It is a deliciously juicy, and flowery drink with notes of citrus and pine. As you can see in the photo below the beer was glowing with hops and it formed a perfect head when I poured it into a glass. It was a top notch New England-style IIPA and the growler was gone in one sitting. I look forward to trying more beers from the Hill Farmstead in the future.

Great review, thanks for sharing! I hope I can find this somewhere in AU! (probably unlikely)
Love the bottle.
Unfortunately the only place to find it is the brewery itself!
a good beer and with an optimal amount of alcohol, I like it!
excellent publication, has good grades of alcohol, nothing better than a cold beer, good friend beer
Good good good good
