Tipples Beer Review #129 Juicy IPA's from the US and Australia

There is always a collection of beers in our fridge, so when my partner told me see wanted a beer or two I managed to curate a little showcase of hazy juicy IPAs

For those not up to date with the craft beer trends in the last few years IPAs have moved away from the agressive Hop monsters to a more inclusive, gentle juicy easy drinking beer, with a little bit of Hazy, sometimes these are called NEIPAs sometimes Hazy IPAs, sometimes Juicy IPAs sometime just IPA.

So We have two of them to try today, the first from the USA from a brewery called Alesmith and the second a local brew from one of Australia's best brewers - Boatrocker.

These are two very similar looking beers, but the Alesmith (at the rear in the photo below) pours with a better head than the Aussie Nexus IPA. It's a golden straw colour, The taste is certainly juicy and even a touch sweet. There is hardly any carbonation which makes it quite gentle and actually not really hoppy at all, it's very enjoyable but probably closer to a session ale than an IPA.

Next up is the Nexus IPA from Boatrcoker who are a brewery from the Suburbs of Melbourne in Australia, they are one of the mainstays of the Australian craft beer scene, having started with some standard Pale ales they now make some of the most interesting beers in Australia including having a great barrel aged program.

First things first - I lvoe the can design - very different for the craft beer world and hints to the fruity juiciness inside whilst still looking like an adult drink. The beer itself is a little higher in the register than the Alesmith Juice Stand, it's very very drinkable, a sweet fruitiness with nicely balanced hops.

The Nexus is probably the better beer, although maybe it's just fresher, but either way they are great beers for a sneaky little mid week tipple.
