I'M BACK ! OVER THERE....
And here I am, out of the house again...way out of the house! I'm assuming the locks have not been changed back home.
I'm working for awhile in a new place: It's a place in the middle of the Navajo Nation Reservation in NE Arizona. It's a cultural change with many interesting items of note, but the one we're interested in here is the beer: There isn't any. No alcohol is sold on the reservation. The closest place to purchase beer is 60 miles away. And as the borders of the reservation goes, it is in the state of New Mexico. It is sold in the grocery store in a separate, enclosed area (closed on Sundays).
Here is one of the very few craft beers I found there and it has the symbol of New Mexico on it.
Yeah, it's a simple design. And it's obviously a New Mexico craft beer. Here's what they say about their beer:
They are proud of their beer, which is good. (If you have a question about shotgunning beer, just let me know.) But I'm having an issue with the beer I've bought in Gallup,NM. Only one out of six have a head on them.
Before the picture, it was slightly larger, but not much. My San Diego contact said: "It's because they don't know how to make beer." I'm wondering if it's the 7,000 ft elevation I'm at. It takes like it looks, lightly carbonated with an okay taste. Not bad, but didn't have that WoW a great IPA has. So I checked the bottom of the can to see when it was brewed and if it had expired.
So, I don't know when it was brewed but it shouldn't be expired yet.
The Brewery is the Santa Fe Brewing Company (Santa Fe is a city in New Mexico).
This is called the Happy Camper IPA
ABV 6.6% alc
82 IBU
As I continue to discover my new environment I'll try to find more beers from the area. Four hours away is Flagstaff, Arizona, so when I go thru there next I'll try to see what they have to offer.
So there ya go - I'm back, from somewhere else.
All Hail #beersaturday and thanks to @detlev for keeping it going.
and the 5SBD from a while back would be appreciated.
Oh, so you got kicked out of your house? 😳
I'm not sure how it happened. :-)) But here I am. And she approved! :-))
Hello there stranger! Great to see you posting again.. Great dedication to get a brew outside the reservation and a craft brew too.. Pity about the lack of head on the beer, but at least you found one.. I like the simple design of the can though 👍
Thanks for the welcome. The goal is to come back and do more. Currently I'm settling and decompressing. Life...it's surprising at times. This weekend I'll go to Gallup again and check for a real store with more interesting beer. The lack of head is fascinating and we'll see what's next. I will keep in touch.
I wonder if it is the water? Beer needs GOOD water and when I vacationed in the southwest, the water always tasted very minerally. The spellchecker does not like that word, but I am sticking with it...
That could contribute. A good brewery should filter their water. I'm thinking that Safeway may not handle their beer correctly. So this time I'm looking for an actual liquor store and seeing what I can find. Isn't it exciting?
How are you doing way out in the Outback?
You know, we did a road trip last year and booked a night at a casino on the Rez in Colorado. Smoker friendly... Colorado... Casino... We had some expectations... Oh no. NO. You can't do that here. Nope, not that either. No, you can smoke you cigarettes and give money to the one armed bandits. Sober.
Bad business model...
We are doing fine, had a very hairy day a week or so ago when I was staring down the possibility of watching everything that did not fit in my car burn... but we are just choking on the smoke now, the fire is way on up the mountain.
Congratulations @dennisauburn! You have received a personal award!
