Big Black Stout

When you are craving a stout you don’t want a watery ass beer with no flavor. Ellison does not know how to brew bad beer. Their stouts are so thick and flavorful it’s almost a big middle finger to all the other breweries in the area. This review is for their Big Black Stout. It’s a chocolate imperial stout that pours like motor oil and tastes so decadent that you won't be able to stop drinking it.

The flavor is ridiculous. I was surprised that that were able to brew and beer that was so chocolate forward and so balanced through the middle. It finishes with a nice roast finish like a fine coffee. I usually expect the chocolate flavor to be sweet, but this was more like a bakers chocolate. It was slightly bitter, with dark coco notes. The bitter finish all coffee and espresso with additional notes of vanilla, malt, and woody notes.

The beer is heavy! It took be an hour to finish the glass. It’s so thick and almost sticky in texture. There’s almost no carbonation or head which contributes to the mouthfeel. With this in mind I would not order two of these in a night. Not to mention they are +10% ABV is sire to go straight to your head.

Overall, I loved this beer. If your not a stout drinker this would be very overwhelming. So with that in mind I would recommend this beer, but be warned it’s a lot!
