Beer Review

Brickway's Epic Blackout Stout is a 17% alcohol/volume brew that is, well... Epic! It is known as "Nebraska's Biggest Beer" and one would be hard pressed to find one with greater alcohol content. At the first sip, you question whether it is that strong because it goes down so smooth! Until you finish the can, then you realize why it says "17%" on it haha! The body is incredibly smooth and the aftertaste provides you with hints of raisin. It is a very complex flavor and one of the most unique brews that I have ever tried!

As you will see in the picture above, they have sold barrel-aged epic blackout stout only on tap. The demand was so high that they had a release party on February 22nd, and by the 24th, all of the barrel aged stout was gone, leaving yours truly without a sample :(

The Can

The Brickway Epic Blackout Stout can features what seems to be a bad ass, old school, turn of the century bare knuckle brawler which fits the taste of this beer! The artwork is from a local tattoo artist just down the street from the brewery. (The artwork for different brews is fantastic so stay tuned as I will do more beer reviews from them!)

The Brewery

The owner, Zac, went to brewery and distillery school in Scotland prior to opening in Omaha. Also, Brickway is the first brewery/distillery in the state of Nebraska since prior to prohibition! Their beer is sold in neighboring states but the demand is quickly growing! Here in Omaha, because of the crazy demand, they only sell it in single cans for $9.99. Look for this in your local stores or stop by and visit! Yes, it is expensive, but it is so unique that I would highly recommend trying it. You will not be disappointed!
